Getting Some Z's

Long Awaited, 8 x 8 " oil on panel,©2015, Fay Terry

$130 plus $10 domestic shipping

The Zinnias have had a rough time this summer, especially since I have not been vigilant about cutting them and keeping the weeds out. However, the biggest hindrance to having beautiful blooms has been the cute little Carolina Chickadees that love to eat the petals.
I was able to pick some today to enjoy. As you may know, the more you cut these flowers, the more they produce. It looks like they are well on the way to being plentiful and the birds are behaving.

Thank you for viewing my art. I am getting back in the habit of daily posting once again and it feels good.

Z Is For Zinnias

SOLD

This oil painting recently sold at the gallery in Calabash on the very same day that I planted my zinnia seeds for a wonderful 2015 crop of my favorite summer flower. I ordered the seeds from Park Seed Company in South Carolina because their seeds are always the very best. I looked at them this morning and the seedlings have emerged from their bio-sponges indoors in the bio-dome planter. I hope to paint many colorful paintings of them this summer. The sponges with the seedlings go directly into the ground. Zinnias love the sun and the heat, and we always have plenty of that.

A Little Obsessed with stripes

Blue Vase, 8 x 8 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

I have been picking lots of flowers and vegetables from the garden; these cute little cherry tomatoes were admiring the Zinnias so I let them be in the painting. It was nice to use larger panel this time after doing a few six inch paintings I wanted to go a little larger.

Please feel free to forward this to someone you think might enjoy it and they can subscribe to my blog if they like. I am trying to expand my subscriber list so any help you give me will be appreciated!

Summer Bouquet

Hand Picked, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry
SOLD
Available at Franklin Square Gallery

Today's picks from the garden behaved well while they were posing for me. They did not wiggle or fall over; they stood up straight and tall. I added the plum and I am very pleased with the way this one turned out.
Thanks for looking at my paintings!

From The Garden

Tiny White Vase, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100 plus shipping

Today was the first day since I arrived home from Maine that I actually worked in the garden.
These flowers were inundated with weeds so I took care of that; naturally I wanted to cut some to bring inside and they insisted on being painted, which was  fine with me. They know they're my favorites.

Worth The Wait

Zinnias In The Kitchen, 6 x 6" oil on gessobord, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100, free shipping

Just returned from a big trip and all the Zinnias are finally living up to their potential, showing plenty of bright colors while singing 'summertime and the livin' is easy'.

I went to Paris with my husband and had the chance to show him all my favorite shops, restaurants, museums, and parks since it was his first trip to the city of light. I will be sharing more about Paris soon.
Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy these summer colors.

Zinnias

The Turquoise Vase, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

These are some of my favorite Zinnia colors, but I love them all! This is one of the best things about summer---loads of flowers.

Longtime Favorites

Fresh Picks, 16 x 20 oil on canvas, ©2012, Fay Terry

It's hard to resist doing another Zinnia painting as summer winds down. Soon there will be a new season with new colors and subject matter.  I love all the changes, but warm sunny weather, a long growing season, and days on the beach make this my favorite time.
This painting is also going to my show in Southport and I will be delivering the paintings to the gallery on Thursday.
I hope you will stop by if you are in the area. The Opening Reception is Friday, September 7, from Five to seven PM.
Thanks for following my art.

Some Are Never Finished

Helen's Bouquet With Cherries, 16x20 oil on canvas, ©2012, Fay Terry

This painting will be in my show in Southport, NC, August 27-September 29

I began this painting in Greensboro last week when I painted with friends and it has since had many different looks. I kept changing things and I am still not certain that I am finished with it but we'll see.
It had an orange cloth up close to the vase and I finally decided to take it out. I also started out with a much darker background and it seemed off balance so I re-worked the background so that it is more in tune with the summery feel of the Zinnias. I still wanted the tablecloth to read as white so I added some soft lavender and some strokes of very pale green. I love the cherries and I think they are not at all overpowered by the flowers.
I would love to hear what you think!

A Few More Cherries

Favorite Lamp, 8 x 10"oil on cradled panel,©2012, Fay Terry

This painting will be available at my show in Southport, beginning August 27th.
The exhibiton will be at Franklin Square Gallery on Howe Street.

This is a painting from my recent trip to Greensboro.  There were so many fun things to paint and now I wish I had taken more photos.  This lamp was my favorite still life set-up inside the studio. I had forgotten how much I love to paint lamps so I think I will be painting more of them in the next few weeks.

Between Dark And Daylight

Five Cherries, 8 x 8" oil on cradled panel, ©2012

Cherries are one of my favorite fruits to eat and to paint. They are plentiful in the produce sections of most stores right now and are delicious as well as pretty.

I painted cherries and flowers yesterday, too. I went to Greensboro to visit my friend, Helen, at her beautiful "Gloriosa Studio and Garden".  It was like being in painting paradise for a day. Helen, Laine, Vicky, and I spent the day working together and sharing lots of ideas. We ended the day tired and happy, thankful to Helen for so graciously hosting us. We had a fabulous day!
I arrived home when there was not enough light to photograph the large painting I did yesterday, but I will post it soon.

Lovin' The Heat

White Zinnias With Magenta, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel

My friend Teej is picking me up in just a minute so we can get frozen mochas at Java Bean Plantation.
The heat is back and just going outdoors is a test of endurance.  I am hoping that the caffeine will get me through the rest of the afternoon. I have been sleepy all day.
These flowers really do love the heat and would not really start blooming like they should until we got some good hot weather.

Summer Mornings

Z is for Zinnias, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel
SOLD
I picked these this morning after spending quite a while weeding and dead-heading all the flowers near the front door.  It was very comfortable working outside until about nine-thirty. Luckily I was in my studio with these flowers shortly after that time.

This painting will be available at my show in Southport, N.C. which begins at the end of August.

Do you want to attract butterflies?

Fay Terry, ZINNIAS AND QUEEN BUTTERFLY, 5 x 7 " oil on museum quality panel, ©2012

This painting is available at ONE ELEVEN MAIN in Aberdeen, NC

One of my favorite flowers, which is easy to grow from seed, attracts large numbers of butterflies and blooms all summer long.  Zinnias come in many bright colors and tolerate heat well.
Butterflies need places to lay eggs, food plants for their larvae(caterpillars), places to form chrysalides, and nectar sources for adult butterflies. Zinnias are one of the best butterfly nectar flowers and are a real taste treat for the butterflies.
I want to thank my friend, Goran Wibran, for giving me a copy of his photo to paint this from!

Garden Study

Garden Study
This is a very quick painting of a tiny part of the garden, including some Basil in a paper cup that I have not had time to plant in the ground.  There is a big thunderstorm on the way so I really had to hustle to get it painted.

Single Zinnia

Single Zinnia
It was a challenge to get the color of this flower just right.  It is a very bright and happy color.
I am having fun with stripes in my paintings.

Zinnias Picked This Morning

Zinnias Picked This Morning

The colors of my zinnias this year are a little more limited than usual but I am starting some new plants from seed to add to the color range.  I was looking for a container to put these in after I picked them this morning and I remembered this beautiful pitcher.  It was made by my friend, Ben Owen, III, and this is the first time I have used it. Ben had a wonderful show at the Campbell House this spring and Bill and I agreed we both loved this piece.

Zinnias

Zinnias
This is my favorite flower to grow in the garden
and my zinnia seeds I planted last week are already coming up.
These are some from last years crop. The variations in color
are always so amazing and best of all, they like the heat.
