This painting has been donated to help raise funds to meet the needs of local veterans in the Sandhills area of North Carolina. Funds dispersed will address a variety of needs such as handicapped access, housing assistance, school funds and clothing, excessive medical bills, transportation, and more.

The Artist League and Railhouse Brewery are working together on "A Stroke Of Patriotism" an event

which will have many paintings by celebrity artists and some of the area's best known artists.

I hope you will come out from 2-4 pm on July 18th and have fun with us at the brewery in Aberdeen while supporting a great cause. Please come and bid on my paintings. I will show you the other one on my next post.

Carving

This little bird is hand carved and painted by a family in South Carolina. We purchased it in Asheville at the Gallery Of The Mountains at the Grove Park Inn.  I just found it the other day, still in the box. Lance Long and his wife and seven children all work on the carvings as a family business and they do beautiful work.

This dock near the Yacht Basin in Southport is a favorite hangout for these stately birds. They probably think it's a great place to people watch. They are very comfortable staying in one spot for a long time so they must feel very safe.  There are several restaurants on the water so maybe the smell of food attracts them, too.

 A great  new restaurant opened across from Provision Company that is named after a lightship stationed on Frying Pan Shoals in 1854 when Bald Head Island lighthouse proved inadequate for the safety of ships. 

The lightship Frying Pan was de-commissioned in 1965, sank in 1986 and was raised in 1987. The original vessel is now a bar at Pier 63 in New York City.

I was in Southport recently taking photos and spotted this pretty bike while walking near the yacht basin. It reminded me of last summer when the movie Safe Haven was being filmed here.

I know some folks who were extras in the film who could not say enough good things about Julianne Hough's friendliness and sweetness.

The movie opens February 14th, and as the female lead, she gets around town on a bike. It should be fun for those who know Southport to see some of their favorite locations in the movie.

Between Dark And Daylight

Cherries are one of my favorite fruits to eat and to paint. They are plentiful in the produce sections of most stores right now and are delicious as well as pretty.

I painted cherries and flowers yesterday, too. I went to Greensboro to visit my friend, Helen, at her beautiful "Gloriosa Studio and Garden".  It was like being in painting paradise for a day. Helen, Laine, Vicky, and I spent the day working together and sharing lots of ideas. We ended the day tired and happy, thankful to Helen for so graciously hosting us. We had a fabulous day!

I arrived home when there was not enough light to photograph the large painting I did yesterday, but I will post it soon.

This beautiful gray pitcher is one of my favorite pottery pieces from Franklin Square Gallery in Southport, NC. It has such a unique shape to it and the colors in it are so subtle. We have so many talented potters producing an amazing assortment of pieces.  I work in the gallery once a month and I am always in awe of the beautiful  work that our potters do.
