Smell The Roses

Rose Petal Dreams, 6 x 6 " oil on canvas, © Fay Terry

What a fast week this has been! I can't believe tomorrow is Friday already. My color preferences change often when it comes to roses, and right now it is pink that I love. Most of all I would like to smell some sweet old fashioned roses that actually have a beautiful scent.
When I used to paint watercolors, I loved the smell of rose madder  genuine pigment because it really smells like roses.

Here We Are, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100.

The surest sign of spring is in my yard right now as these crocus flowers poke their heads up and declare "we came back!".  It never fails to amaze me and it always seems like magic, because it is.

Please help me expand the reach of my blog by sharing this with a friend.

Lovin' The Heat

White Zinnias With Magenta, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel

My friend Teej is picking me up in just a minute so we can get frozen mochas at Java Bean Plantation.
The heat is back and just going outdoors is a test of endurance.  I am hoping that the caffeine will get me through the rest of the afternoon. I have been sleepy all day.
These flowers really do love the heat and would not really start blooming like they should until we got some good hot weather.

Are you a budding artist?

Fay Terry, BLOOMS AND BUDS, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2012

When I choose plants, I always look for one with good potential, and to me that means plenty of buds.  It reminds me of the notion that we call someone who is starting out and learning a skill a"budding" musician, artist, writer, or other title. Now, mind you, they may not be blooming yet, but they are filled with the possibility of becoming something wonderful which they have chosen to aim for.
We can all help these folks whether they are six or sixty simply by encouraging them.  I also plan to encourage this orchid that my sweet husband bought me by taking really good care of it so these buds will one day be blooming.

Forsythia In Delft

Forsythia In Delft

One day they are bare branches
and the next day you see them loaded with
cheery yellow flowers.  This happens in late
February in North Carolina and it
never fails to catch me by surprise.
