Up-Beet Spring- Revised

Up-Beet Spring-revised

This is the painting from my blog post on May 7, 2011.  I was looking at it the other day and decided that the beets should be darker than they were in order to read like beets, instead of radishes, which is what someone thought they were.  I am happier with this deeper color.

Green Beans Growing

Green Beans Growing

This is what would have been yesterday's post had I been free of computer difficulties that would not allow me to post.  This is another vegetable garden painting and I picked quite a few of these beans and cooked them so I can vouch for their fresh delicious flavor.  This is my 100th post.

Squash Blossom

Squash Blossom
This is a wonderful and very productive vegetable garden in South Carolina.  The soil is mostly red clay, which is so different from the sandy soil where I live.  There has been lots of rain this week and the vegetables are growing very rapidly.

Zinnias

Zinnias
This is my favorite flower to grow in the garden
and my zinnia seeds I planted last week are already coming up.
These are some from last years crop. The variations in color
are always so amazing and best of all, they like the heat.

Up-Beet Spring

Up-beet Spring
There is, in my estimation, only one time of the year better than Spring(and that would
be summer).  Where I live, it gets too hot to enjoy gardening after about June. So you
keep everything watered and just have to hope that all the work you did in the garden keeps it
producing veggies almost til the first frost. Which of course gives you more time to
enjoy summer by heading off to the beach every week-end. Just pulled these beets up
this morning and looking forward to having them for dinner!

Today's Magnolia

Today's Magnolia
Driving home from dinner in Raleigh last night, I jokingly told my husband that
I ought to go ahead and pick a magnolia now so I can get an early start painting in the
morning.  Next thing I knew he pulled over beside a huge magnolia tree and asked me if I needed the flashlight.  I should know by now not to say anything like that unless I mean it.
I did get a large flower that was fully opened up and had fun painting it first thing this morning!

Big Pine Cone

Big Pine Cone
I was doing yard work with Bill and picking up pine cones.
Many had fallen during the storms on Thursday.  I decided to do a painting of one.
I'd never tried this,  but I really had fun doing it.  It was
beside my easel with a  spotlight on it. What a good lesson in
observation!  I think I will do this again just to challenge
myself.  This pine cone is a full  eight inches long, but skinnier than most.

Tulip Interiors

Tulip Interiors  SOLD
Yesterday my son Hampton, and his wife Kim, brought me a pot of tulips in
bud.  By today they were wide open, and I could not believe they went from
bud to such fullness in one day.  Now I realize it was warm in the kitchen causing them
to show their glorious interior colors.  I find it amazing that now as the sun goes down
and it has cooled off, they have closed back up.
What fun to watch!
