30 Paintings In 30 Days-Day 28

Five Admirers, 5 x 7 " acrylic on panel, ©2015, Fay Terry

These cherries make the apple look huge. I just made an apple crisp using a favorite easy recipe with oatmeal and brown sugar. This apple was not included so it may be used in another painting.
There are just two more days of the challenge. This has been the biggest and best so far.

30 Paintings In 30 Days-Day 19

Bowl Game, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

I am still enjoying the big bag of cherries I bought; they are delicious and great fun to paint. They are like little jewels when a light shines on them they really come alive. This group seems to be playing a game and so far only two have managed to get inside the bowl. Not sure what the strategy is but it looks like one more is getting close!

30 Paintings In 30 Days-Day 8

Cherries And Chocolates, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2015, Fay Terry

$125 free shipping

These incredibly wonderful chocolates came to our home on Christmas Day. I am so far striking a balance between fruit and what's in this lovely round box(dark chocolate pralines from Paris). Chocolate covered cherries are not a favorite of mine, but chocolate with fresh cherries is another story. Same goes for strawberries and oranges.

Longtime Favorites

Fresh Picks, 16 x 20 oil on canvas, ©2012, Fay Terry

It's hard to resist doing another Zinnia painting as summer winds down. Soon there will be a new season with new colors and subject matter.  I love all the changes, but warm sunny weather, a long growing season, and days on the beach make this my favorite time.
This painting is also going to my show in Southport and I will be delivering the paintings to the gallery on Thursday.
I hope you will stop by if you are in the area. The Opening Reception is Friday, September 7, from Five to seven PM.
Thanks for following my art.

Some Are Never Finished

Helen's Bouquet With Cherries, 16x20 oil on canvas, ©2012, Fay Terry

This painting will be in my show in Southport, NC, August 27-September 29

I began this painting in Greensboro last week when I painted with friends and it has since had many different looks. I kept changing things and I am still not certain that I am finished with it but we'll see.
It had an orange cloth up close to the vase and I finally decided to take it out. I also started out with a much darker background and it seemed off balance so I re-worked the background so that it is more in tune with the summery feel of the Zinnias. I still wanted the tablecloth to read as white so I added some soft lavender and some strokes of very pale green. I love the cherries and I think they are not at all overpowered by the flowers.
I would love to hear what you think!

A Few More Cherries

Favorite Lamp, 8 x 10"oil on cradled panel,©2012, Fay Terry

This painting will be available at my show in Southport, beginning August 27th.
The exhibiton will be at Franklin Square Gallery on Howe Street.

This is a painting from my recent trip to Greensboro.  There were so many fun things to paint and now I wish I had taken more photos.  This lamp was my favorite still life set-up inside the studio. I had forgotten how much I love to paint lamps so I think I will be painting more of them in the next few weeks.

Between Dark And Daylight

Five Cherries, 8 x 8" oil on cradled panel, ©2012

Cherries are one of my favorite fruits to eat and to paint. They are plentiful in the produce sections of most stores right now and are delicious as well as pretty.

I painted cherries and flowers yesterday, too. I went to Greensboro to visit my friend, Helen, at her beautiful "Gloriosa Studio and Garden".  It was like being in painting paradise for a day. Helen, Laine, Vicky, and I spent the day working together and sharing lots of ideas. We ended the day tired and happy, thankful to Helen for so graciously hosting us. We had a fabulous day!
I arrived home when there was not enough light to photograph the large painting I did yesterday, but I will post it soon.

Perspective On Cherries

Fay Terry, WILD CHERRIES, 6 x 6 " oil on gesso bord panel, ©2012

Once again I chose my favorite way of looking at the subject, aerial perspective.  The fruit was on a patterned tray and it appeared very festive and cheerful from above. I could almost imagine two couples dancing and I loved the fact that three sported stems and one did not.

Just A Bowl Of Cherries

Fay Terry, BALANCING ACT, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2012

Available at One Eleven Main, Aberdeen, NC

The old song "Life is just a bowl of cherries" somehow  got stuck in my head today so I looked up the lyrics and saw that it was credited to George Gershwin.  I thought the song was not likely to have been written by the same man who composed "Rhapsody In Blue"and it turns out that Gershwin, who was not a lyricist, did not write the song.  Gershwin died at the young age of 38, from a brain tumor.  It is amazing that he had such a large body of work.
