No Room For Us

Move Over, Lemon! 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2015, Fay Terry

We just got home from the mountains and I did this late day painting pretty fast. It's been a rainy week-end but even with that it was so beautiful in the High Country.  We visited some great art galleries and we did a lot of walking and shopping in Blowing Rock and Valle Crucis. Good thing we had our rain gear. We also tried some wonderful restaurants, so I can't wait to go back.

I am excited that the painting challenge is winding down. It has been a lot of fun.

30 Paintings In 30 Days-Day 24

Saturday Citrus, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2015, Fay Terry

$100 free shipping

I set this still life up last night knowing that I was going to paint very early this morning.  I decided to do this as quickly as I could and spent less than an hour.  I am pleased with the result. The bowl is another piece from the gallery in Southport, that I purchased at last year's "Empty Bowls" event which I will tell you more about later.
Thanks for looking at my work and I hope ya'll have a great week-end.

30 Paintings In 30 Days-Day 12

Kumquats In A Bowl, 6 x 6" oil on panel, ©2015, Fay Terry

$100

It's cold and rainy here today but my studio is warm and I love looking out at the rain and wind since I don't have to go anywhere. This has been a full painting day except for yoga this morning at 7:30.
I have enjoyed visiting lots of the artists in the thirty paintings challenge. The number of paintings being done each day is amazing. There is a special feeling that comes from being a part of this group and it is highly motivational.
As always, thanks for stopping by and looking at my art. Please leave a comment because I'd love to know what you think,

National Pumpkin Day

Pumpkin Picnic, 6 x 8 " oil on canvas panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100.

I was attracted to the light and shadows first, but then I liked the fact that each pumpkin seemed to have its own personality and they all looked like good friends getting together for a picnic.
This had a busy background of people walking past which I chose to leave out. I am trying out a new canvas panel by Raymar and I like it but I have some others I want to paint on before I order more.
I still like gessobord, especially for the small square paintings, but it's fun to try new materials.

It was my intention to post this yesterday for National Pumpkin Day, but it got too dark to photograph it.
Did you know the world record pumpkin weighs 2,032 pounds and was grown in the Napa Valley?

Half Way To Halloween

One Of Many, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100. free shipping

My husband loves buying pumpkins. He starts with two or three around October first, before I realize it we  have a dozen. I like them, but in small quantities.  Admittedly, they are fun to paint, look great against blue, and decorate the yard nicely for Fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving.

There is a small project taking place here that I have declined participating in. Bill and my daughter are creating some chevron stripe pumpkins. I'll take a photo when they finish so you can see the results.

Thank you for following my blog!

Worth The Wait

Zinnias In The Kitchen, 6 x 6" oil on gessobord, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100, free shipping

Just returned from a big trip and all the Zinnias are finally living up to their potential, showing plenty of bright colors while singing 'summertime and the livin' is easy'.

I went to Paris with my husband and had the chance to show him all my favorite shops, restaurants, museums, and parks since it was his first trip to the city of light. I will be sharing more about Paris soon.
Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy these summer colors.

Empty Bowl

The Outsiders, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry
$100
Little bowls like this are fun to paint and I may do this one again because I learned a lot from doing it.  The bowl is actually closer to red but the light hitting it made it look very orangey and put orange into the shadows, too. I did eat the orange sections when I was finished so I'll have to cut up more.

Happy May Day to you. My mother used to tell me about a May first tradition of taking small goodie baskets and flowers to the house of a neighborhood friend, ringing the doorbell and leaving without getting caught so they would not see who left the basket.

Thanks for viewing my art.

Citrus Fruit

Lonely Lemon Wedge, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

This is a follow up to my fruit painting done on Tuesday, which you may remember.  I used the same colors today and I like the result.  The shadows were all done with Pthalo blue, thio violet, and cad yellow light.
I also used Gamblin transparent orange, a touch of raw umber on the lemon, viridian, zinc yellow, and cobalt turquoise in the tablecloth.  It is not often that I really keep track of the colors I use but I have enjoyed doing something a little different this week.

Vibrant Color

                          Citrus Set-up, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

This is a small still life that I set up in my studio in order to work on some of the ideas in Patti Mollica's book, Color Theory.  I practiced mixing some of the combinations given for vibrant colors and they definitely are.  The background is a gray that I mixed from pthalo blue, thio violet, cad yellow light, and white. It appears more gray in the painting than what you see in the photo. I may do this again and focus more on value, this time I was playing with color.

The book is full of information and Patti explains the concepts very well.

Thanks for looking at my daily paintings.

Two On The Table

Wild About Fall!, 6 x 6 " oil on museum quality panel, ©2012, Fay Terry

I am having so much fun painting these little pumpkins that are taking on their own special personalities. These two like to hang out together but one of them has a broken stem and the other has a long, tall curved stem. The short stem always wants to block the long stem so that it cannot show off its beautiful curved stem. Maybe next time you'll get to see it.
