Cocoa And Shimmer, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2015, Fay Terry

available soon at Franklin Square Gallery

It's not too early to work on some holiday paintings and my gallery in Southport always has an area of handmade gift items which has become very popular. I will be bringing some small paintings and my 2016 art calendars. The Holiday Boutique will open November 2nd.

Tea Time

Le Creuset Red, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2015, Fay Terry

$100, free shipping

It's almost time to start up the tea kettle. We drink ice tea most of the year but it will soon be nice to have some hot tea. Our daytime temperatures are still around eighty degrees so hot tea is not appealing yet.
I've always liked painting tea kettles, especially when they are bright and shiny like this one.
Thanks for viewing my art.  I hope you are enjoying the regularity of my daily posts once again.

30 Paintings In 30 Days-Day 29

Little Reds, 5 x 7 " acrylic on museum quality panel, ©2015, Fay Terry

I am really enjoying painting with acrylics for a change. I have not used them for a good while and it does take some getting used to again.  These apples were fun to paint and the shadows were even more so.  I have been surprised how much bigger the 5x7's feel, even though they are actually one square inch smaller than the 6x6's. I guess I like the shape for a break from the square format.

30 Paintings In 30 Days-Day 25

Red Plums, 6 x 6 " oil on museum quality panel, ©2015, Fay Terry

$100

Sweet, tart, red and juicy are the best words to describe one of my favorite fruits. My mom used to buy lots of fruit when we were growing up and I always loved plums. We had wild plums growing in our yard, but they were really small like cherries and only good for cooking and making plum jelly or jam.
It's hard to believe we are approaching the end of January and the completion of the thirty paintings challenge. It has been great and I have seen so many wonderful paintings from all the artists.

30 Paintings In 30 Days-Day 19

Bowl Game, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

I am still enjoying the big bag of cherries I bought; they are delicious and great fun to paint. They are like little jewels when a light shines on them they really come alive. This group seems to be playing a game and so far only two have managed to get inside the bowl. Not sure what the strategy is but it looks like one more is getting close!

30 Paintings In 30 Days-Day 6

It's Strawberry Season Somewhere, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2015, Fay Terry

$125.

I love these in this pretty glass dish which was a special gift from dear friends which I couldn't wait to use and paint.
It is so great to have fruit like this in the winter instead of waiting until May in North Carolina for the berries to ripen. While I still prefer locally grown produce, I have been surprised recently at the flavor and quality of some of the imports, particularly blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries. It certainly increases the fresh fruit choices.

30 Paintings in 30 Days-Day One

The Big Apple, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2015, Fay Terry

$100 plus shipping

I am enthusiastically beginning another thirty day painting challenge with Leslie Saeta and hundreds of artists from all over the world. I can't think of a better start to the new year! (except collards and black eyed peas) I am doing this for the third time, enjoying it more every time I participate. Take a look at all the paintings here.
This month, I plan to focus on still life paintings, with an emphasis on fruits and vegetables, two of my favorite food categories.

The title of today's painting started me thinking about how the nickname for New York City first began.  John J. Fitz Gerald first used the term The Big Apple in reference to N.Y. horse-racing. He wrote articles for the New York Morning Telegraph.  He explained his use in a February 18, 1924 column under the headline "Around the Big Apple".
"The Big Apple is the dream of every lad that ever threw a leg over a thoroughbred and the goal of all horsemen.  There's only one Big Apple.  That's New York."

Cyber Monday Special

Pine Cone On Red, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100
Cyber Monday special,  free frame is included with this painting if you buy it before midnight on December 1st.
Once again there are huge pine cones in the yard, especially after some windy days; they are always fun to paint.  This one is available and if you buy it on Cyber Monday, I will frame it in a lovely black wood Franken frame for free. The background of the painting is red even though it looks a little pink in the bottom photo.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes On A Yellow Plate, 8 x 8" oil on gessobord, ©2014, Fay Terry

All of a sudden we have lots of tomatoes ripening every day in the garden; they are wonderful but I am going to have to find some creative ways to use them all.  I also have eggplant so maybe I will make my long ago recipe for ratatouille.  I can only eat so many tomato sandwiches!

Spectacular

Glowing Rose, 4 x 4 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

This is one of my favorite roses in the large group of rose photos I took in Southport.
I usually don't care for plants that are variegated or have multiple colors, but this red rose with touches of yellow was so unusual and pretty that I fell in love with it.
There is just one more from this collection that I have not yet painted, so look for it soon.
This tiny painting will be available with the other rose paintings at One Eleven Main in Aberdeen, NC.
If you are in the area, I hope you will visit and see the many paintings of mine throughout the store.

Seed Container

Resting On Red, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

SOLD

I have brought quite a few pine cones into my studio and I am beginning to see numerous seeds on the floor that have fallen out of them.  The paper thin seeds have wings which aids in dissemination by the wind.  They are also spread by birds and squirrels. Sometimes the cones are also full of insects, but I don't think I have to worry about that since we have had so much freezing weather recently.

Painting these is like putting a puzzle together and it is fun because of all the value changes. (light and dark areas).
I am enjoying this series and I appreciate all of your comments. Thanks for viewing my blog!

Big Red

Natural Beauty, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100

This gorgeous Amaryllis is on my kitchen table and I love the way the light from the window is coming through the petals. It has a stalk that is about three feet high so it has to be tied up to stand straight.
There are four flowers blooming now and one bud on the right that hasn't opened yet. This one took forever to bloom but we had fun watching it grow since late November.

Traditional Bloom

Amaryllis , 6 x 6 " oil on panel,©2013, Fay Terry

$75. free shipping

This is my favorite Christmas flower and I always have several blooming in December in pots.
They get pretty tall and sometimes start falling over and have to be tied up. This one is very velvety and beautiful and we are enjoying it.
I have some paper-whites blooming right now too, but they have a very strong and unpleasant scent. These are the first ones I have had that don't smell really good, they must be a different variety than what I've had in the past. Does anyone know the name of a good paper-white narcissus bulb to plant that smells sweet?

Pomegranate Pose

Available Snack, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100.

Pomegranates are so shiny and beautiful with their luscious color and cute shapes.
They've become even more popular as research shows how good they are for our health.
Compounds called punicalagins are found in this fruit and benefit the heart and blood vessels, even to the point of melting away heart blockages and lowering blood pressure. There are also many other benefits that have been documented.

I hope you've had a great week-end.  Thanks for following my art.

Red Berries

Local Strawberries, 6x6" oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

There are still some local strawberries available, but the season here is winding down. The berries grown close by are the best  but it's still nice that fresh strawberries are in the stores almost year round.

Poppies from Sweden

Poppies, 8 x 10" oil on panel

Another example of the flowers growing on the Swedish island of Olund. It was so much fun to paint these flowers.

Thanks, as always, for viewing!

Counting The Days

Christmas Camellias, 8 x 8 x 1.5" oil on gallery wrapped canvas, ©2012, Fay Terry

Everything is falling into place here as the beehive of construction activity winds down and these flowers are going to be adorning our new kitchen as soon as the freshly refinished floor is dry.  I can hardly wait to try out my new gas oven by baking cookies and bread in the next few days.
I loved getting time in my studio to paint these flowers, arranged in one of my favorite handmade pottery vases.  It felt so good to be reminded of the beauty in nature and of flowers that bloom even in the winter.
I hope you find something beautiful to look at today!

Something New

Christmas Coffee Break, 6 x 6 " oil on museum panel, ©2012, Fay Terry

I have been wanting to paint these glass ornaments for quite a while so I set this up in my shadowbox with a piece of glass under it so that I would have some good reflections.  This was so much fun to paint ( I know I say that a lot).
If you are looking for one of a kind gifts, this would look great setting on the little easel that comes with it. The price reflects the 25% off sale that I am having through the end of December, so let me know and I will gift wrap it for you, too.

Labor Day Apple Trio

Bowl Game, 8 x 8 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2012, Fay Terry

These apples look as if they are ready to start jumping into the bowl.  It's a small bowl and will only hold two of them so they'll have to be quick.
This is the first stainless steel bowl I have painted and it was really fun to do.  Now I want to try another one with a different set up.  I love seeing the colors of the fruit and the cloth reflected in the shiny metal of the bowl.
