April Flowers

In Full Bloom, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2015, Fay Terry

$100, free shipping

This painting has lots of impasto which is a change for me, I usually don't apply paint thickly. I wanted to give this some texture and dimension so I made the petals using lots of paint. Those of you who follow my blog know that I am painting lots of Wisteria right now. It may take a week or more to dry enough so that I can ship it to you.

30 Paintings In 30 Days-Day 20

Shiny Fruit, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2015, Fay Terry

$100

This painting is one of my favorites that I have painted in the challenge. I love the dark parts of the cherries and the empty bowl. I am still working to improve my composition skills and some days setting up a still life seems easier than others.

30 Paintings in 30 Days-Day One

The Big Apple, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2015, Fay Terry

$100 plus shipping

I am enthusiastically beginning another thirty day painting challenge with Leslie Saeta and hundreds of artists from all over the world. I can't think of a better start to the new year! (except collards and black eyed peas) I am doing this for the third time, enjoying it more every time I participate. Take a look at all the paintings here.
This month, I plan to focus on still life paintings, with an emphasis on fruits and vegetables, two of my favorite food categories.

The title of today's painting started me thinking about how the nickname for New York City first began.  John J. Fitz Gerald first used the term The Big Apple in reference to N.Y. horse-racing. He wrote articles for the New York Morning Telegraph.  He explained his use in a February 18, 1924 column under the headline "Around the Big Apple".
"The Big Apple is the dream of every lad that ever threw a leg over a thoroughbred and the goal of all horsemen.  There's only one Big Apple.  That's New York."

Full Of Flowers

Wild Wisteria, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, © Fay Terry

SOLD

Most of the Wisteria that grows wild is fading away so there are not too many more opportunities to paint it except...  We have a new Wisteria vine that we ordered last year from a nursery in South Carolina. It is a hybrid plant just coming into bloom and looks as if it's going to be really pretty on our Pergola. Perhaps there will be some more paintings of these beautiful flowers this spring.

Same Flowers, Different Place

Porch Tulips, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100 plus shipping

It's finally warm enough to enjoy the screened porch so I've been enjoying these tulips on the table where I now eat breakfast and lunch.
I painted this one very quickly, which is how I like to paint daily paintings. Sometimes it works, but sometimes a small painting can take far longer than I imagined.
My large paintings may be viewed on my website, but I need to get busy and update my inventory and work on my site to reflect what I have recently been working on in the bigger sizes.
Thanks for viewing my art!

Flowers

Easter Tulips. 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100 plus shipping

It was a wonderful week-end at the beach with the exception of the unrelenting rain and cool temps. We had lots of fun anyway, spending time with our kids.
I was scheduled to work in the gallery Saturday afternoon and we had tons of people come in.
It's nice to be home again with the promise of warm weather most of the week.
Thanks for viewing my art.

Standing Tall

Corn Flake King, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

This is the second in my series of chicken paintings and I am really enjoying the time spent on these.
I don't eat chicken or eggs and it is sad to see a truckload of these birds in cages on the highway.
Times have certainly changed since our ancestors could go out on the farm and get a chicken for dinner.
Up until the 1950's most flocks were raised on pasture land.
This rooster has such gorgeous feathers and was really fun to paint.

Saturday Special

Wide-Eyed, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel

$100, free shipping

This is from a different Forsythia plant with blossoms that are more upright and larger. It is the final one of this series and tomorrow I will show them all together in a collage. This is the brightest one and I really like the more pronounced orange centers these have.
Thank you for all of your comments, and I appreciate all the support I get from ya'll on a regular basis.

In My Garden

Balloon Flowers, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100, free shipping

Last year my Balloon Flowers did not come up after many years of blooming. This summer they have resurfaced in the same flower bed, but in a different spot.  I am happy to have them back.
Maybe someone moved them without telling me.
I had fun with all these greens and blues and had to go outside several times to look at them again.

Coastal Bounty

Carolina Crab, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

This was really fun to paint and I was timing it while trying to paint quickly.  I used only three colors plus white. I used Cerulean blue, Cad red light, and cad yellow medium. I often use Cerulean and Cad red light  to make some nice greys but this is the first time I've used the three colors together.

Did you know that if the live crab spends some time in the fridge, it will not move around much while it's posing for you? The other way is something my husband's grandfather taught him years ago down in Little River, SC. You can rub the underside of the crab and put it completely to sleep.

Iris

Blue Iris,6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$75

I just love these blue Iris. We had tons of them for years growing in the garden of the house I grew up in.  They kept spreading  so  we had plentiful blooms for picking and bringing into the house and giving away. They originally came from my grandmother's garden.
They are showy, but simple to grow.

Up A Tree

Peacock Alley, 5 x 7 " oil on archival panel

$100

This is from a photo I took in India where I saw many of these gorgeous birds but it was difficult to get a paintable shot so I left out all the tree limbs and leaves that partially blocked the view.
There may be another photo that I will try to work from soon.
Hope you are having a beautiful day.

Blue Hydrangeas

Blue Hydrangeas, 6 x 6" oil on panel, © Fay Terry, 2012

There is a good article in the May issue of Southern Living magazine that tells how to change the color of Hydrangea blooms.  I have frequently sprinkled garden sulfur around the base of the plant to make the flowers bluer by causing the soil to be more acidic.  I did not realize that you could also use pelletized lime to make the soil more alkaline and turn the flowers pink.  It takes some time to see results, so it's a good idea to do it now, at the beginning of the blooming period. White Hydrangeas will stay white regardless of the pH of the soil.

I hope you missed me while I was gone for a few days.  I seldom go a day without a daily painting, but sometimes "Nana" wants to be with  her grandchildren.

Plums

Plums
I love tablecloths, especially those with  stripes. This painting is quite large and I like the fact that the canvas is square and the table is oblong. I really enjoyed painting this still life set up while I was in the workshop in Florida with Alice Williams. I used cobalt blue and white for the stripes and I think that gives it a very fresh and lively feeling. This painting will be going to One Eleven Main as soon as I frame it.
