Waiting For October

Cool Weather Bloomer, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2015, Fay Terry

Gulley's Garden Center will have flats of Pansies for planting the first week of October. It can't be  sooner because we usually have some hot days in September and Pansies don't like the heat. Every year I can't wait to get them started because they bloom profusely until the first hot weather in the spring. The Pinehurst Resort and The Carolina Hotel plant theirs at that time, as does the Village of Pinehurst.  These cheerful bright flowers appear in almost every Fall landscape- the hospital, the huge flower pots on Broad St. in Southern Pines, and Pinecrest Plaza to name a few.

I never liked Pansies until we moved here and found that gardening in the Sandhills is very different from the red clay soil in Raleigh. We soon learned what grows in sandy soil.
A surprising thing about Pansies is that they are edible. There are quite a few patient cooks who make candied flower petals and then put them on cookies like the ones below.

Half Way To Halloween

One Of Many, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100. free shipping

My husband loves buying pumpkins. He starts with two or three around October first, before I realize it we  have a dozen. I like them, but in small quantities.  Admittedly, they are fun to paint, look great against blue, and decorate the yard nicely for Fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving.

There is a small project taking place here that I have declined participating in. Bill and my daughter are creating some chevron stripe pumpkins. I'll take a photo when they finish so you can see the results.

Thank you for following my blog!

Fall Festivities

Muffy's Party, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100. Halloween Special
$75. until October 16th

I just love these bright little pumpkins and the tablecloth beneath them.  They are giving off lots of energy and reminding me of the fun of October.
Soon it will be time for the State Fair in Raleigh, which is where I grew up and attended the fair every year. I hope we get to go this year.

Thanks for looking at my art!

Endless Summer

30" x 30" on gallery wrapped canvas (1. 5" deep)
Available

This painting spent far too long waiting for me to notice it in my studio. When I did, it seemed the perfect time to finish it because my Hydrangeas are still in bloom, and I have pears in the kitchen. The painting had only been drawn on the canvas, from a still life set-up that I could barely remember.
Luckily, along with the flowers and pears, I located the vase I originally drew. It was exciting to work on  an end of summer painting since that is my favorite season.

Haven't given this a title yet, email suggestions to me, PLease!

Thanks for your comments and for viewing my paintings.
