30 Paintings In 30 Days-Day 4

Four Eighths, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2015, Fay Terry

$100 plus shipping

All of you who follow my blog know that I love stripes and use them frequently in my paintings.
These orange bites called for one of my favorite kitchen towels to be placed under them.
It must be a good season for citrus because the oranges and grapefruits are wonderful and sweet.
These Cara Cara oranges are my favorite. They are a deep pinkish on the inside and are seedless with low acidity.  Oranges really get me through the winter and keep me going strong so I am glad to have discovered these.

Vibrant Color

                          Citrus Set-up, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

This is a small still life that I set up in my studio in order to work on some of the ideas in Patti Mollica's book, Color Theory.  I practiced mixing some of the combinations given for vibrant colors and they definitely are.  The background is a gray that I mixed from pthalo blue, thio violet, cad yellow light, and white. It appears more gray in the painting than what you see in the photo. I may do this again and focus more on value, this time I was playing with color.

The book is full of information and Patti explains the concepts very well.

Thanks for looking at my daily paintings.

Sunny Day

Sunshine On A Plate, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2012, Fay Terry

I have been buying oranges and enjoying them for afternoon snacks. This blue really makes the orange color glow.
My studio has good light but I usually enjoy working there on a day that really good light is coming in the windows. Today is the exact opposite of yesterday's grayness and rain.  The sun is shining brightly and it is almost seventy degrees.
I hope you enjoy this bright painting of one of my favorite fruits!

Oranges In A Bowl

Oranges In A Bowl
I found this pretty bowl on sale at Target, it has butterflies on the inside, too.
I am on a kick to eat lots of citrus fruit and it comes in handy for painting as well. I did this in Charlotte at my son's house and used one of Kim's animal print throws to set it up on. It was fun to paint.
