My recent show with Ben Owen III was a great success. Our title for the exhibit was "Dynamic

Color in clay and paint". The bright clear color in the paintings was studiously coordinated with Ben's amazing glazes and we had many visitors during the month along with a good number of sales. 

Thanks to all of you art lovers who came out for our opening and visited the gallery all during the month.

We Are Tar Heels!

These nice young men wanted a photo with a famous North Carolina artist and the artist was happy to be in the company of Kennedy Meeks, Joel Berry, Justin Jackson, and Marcus Paige. These are four UNC basketball players who excel in school and epitomize good sportsmanship on the court. I am proud to stand with them.

I have been painting very large paintings and commissions for Christmas gifts which I won't post because  that might spoil some surprises. I will offer my 2016 calendars later this week on this blog. Let me know if you would like to order some.

I painted four paintings using these items a while back and I'm planning on doing some new paintings using glass. I think that the suggestions Carol Marine makes about how to paint glass will be very helpful. It's a nice challenge to continue improving skills in various painting subjects. I still have a couple more of this series to post.

Turnip Time

The color in these turnips is really bright and beautiful. This is a vegetable that I really disliked as a child but I was required to eat a small amount when they were served with dinner. Eventually I started to enjoy eating them, especially the way my dad cooked them. 

I love eating turnip greens and they are even better with diced turnips, hot peppers, pickled onions, and crumbled corn bread.

Colored Glass

Love the reflections of the glass colors on to the tabletop- it's so much fun to paint these colored glass pieces.

This is a 16x20" oil on canvas. I love painting these baskets and the flowers are fun, too.

I had fun painting this little rabbit and making it a tiny painting. It has been a while since I've picked up a four by four inch panel. Maybe I will make a few more small ones, they are finished quickly and look nice in the small frames I get from Franken Frames.

It is not raining today. It is cloudy and more rain is expected this afternoon and tonight. Lots of branches are down, but thankfully no damage in our area.

Zen

This is one of my favorite paintings from the past that makes me feel warm just looking at it. 

This has been a chilly, windy week-end which completes two straight weeks of rain. I may have to make some hot tea just to chase away the cold and damp. I hope you are staying warm and dry. There  will be sunshine by Tuesday, according to our local forecast.

Color For A Rainy Day

We are under a state of emergency because of the weather and flooding so many of the week-end activities are being canceled. This includes the 37th annual Autumnfest which is held in Southern Pines. It includes a 5K Road Race and booths set up on Broad Street with delicious food and wonderful arts and crafts, pottery, and much more.  It's too bad it won't be held this year but safety comes first. There are already some trees down and the ground is saturated already. Pine trees fall with the windy conditions and the roads are slick with water and pine needles, not good for the runners!

Thirty Paintings In Thirty Days

This has been a terrific month!  I have had so much fun doing this challenge and I'm sure I will do the next one that Leslie hosts in January. Leaf Shadows

The rain continues with very brief intervals of sunshine. It was during one sunny interval that I was able to paint this before the clouds returned.  We still have a bit of blue sky without the bright sun and shadows.

My "Endless Summer" Hydrangeas have not bloomed once all summer because I pruned them too much and too late.  Last evening I was on the porch and saw an amazing sight--lots of blooms on six plants. It's going to be nice to have October blue Hydrangeas!

Kennebunkport is one of my favorite places in Maine because I grew up going there with my grandmother and later with my Uncle Paul. For many years my husband and I spent a week at the Colony Hotel with my uncle and our children  every summer.  It was fun for me to have some time this summer visiting relatives while exploring new and old favorite places. Arundel Wharf restaurant holds many memories for me.

The only thing better than painting a lobster is eating it. I have painted some of these beauties from life, but this was done from a photo I took of my dinner while I was enjoying the views of water and boats.

It's almost time to start up the tea kettle. We drink ice tea most of the year but it will soon be nice to have some hot tea. Our daytime temperatures are still around eighty degrees so hot tea is not appealing yet. 

I've always liked painting tea kettles, especially when they are bright and shiny like this one.

No Room For Us

We just got home from the mountains and I did this late day painting pretty fast. It's been a rainy week-end but even with that it was so beautiful in the High Country.  We visited some great art galleries and we did a lot of walking and shopping in Blowing Rock and Valle Crucis. Good thing we had our rain gear. We also tried some wonderful restaurants, so I can't wait to go back.

I am excited that the painting challenge is winding down. It has been a lot of fun.
