State Flower

State Flower of  N.C. , 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2015, Fay Terry

$85 special spring sale, free shipping

If you love Dogwoods, I'm sure you are enjoying seeing all the beautiful trees in bloom.
The pink Dogwoods are especially pretty and it would be hard to pick a favorite of the two colors. I think every yard in our neighborhood has Azaleas and Dogwoods blooming right now. We are all big on gardening so there are many pretty yards.

Below is a photo I took this afternoon in the rain. I hope we get a little sunshine soon.
There is a small Koi pond in front of the tree and I think maybe its roots draw water from it
so that it is always the best bloomer.

Spring Air

Flowery Branch, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100 plus shipping

There are lots of shadows on this bough hanging down from the Dogwood tree. I decided to try a different color background, which I think works well with the flowers and leaves.
I went to Raleigh this morning to pick up some paintings from a show and even managed to have lunch at one of my favorite places.
The trip meant that my painting did not get done until late afternoon, but it was nice to get away to the big city!

Togetherness

Dogwood Doubles, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100 includes free shipping
The Dogwoods have been exceptionally gorgeous this spring and I can never resist trying different styles to paint them. The petals are falling now and when the wind picks up it looks like a snowstorm. The ground is covered with piles of soft white pieces.

I am hearing lots of thunder as I post this and one of  my dogs is cowering on the basement stairs.  We are supposed to get some severe weather this afternoon which may include large hail. Camden is very frightened of thunder and lightning, Pixie does not seem bothered by it. I want to get a calming vest, which I have heard really helps during storms and other times of anxiety.

Autumn Leaves

Dogwood Leaves With Pumpkin, 8 x 10" oil on cradled panel, ©2012, Fay Terry

The Dogwood trees look as if their leaves have been dipped in red wine and that's only the beginning!
I always love the stages of color these trees go through each fall because they end up wearing gorgeous reds and orange just before the leaves drop off.
Fortunately we have a number of Dogwoods in the yard and each one is filled with red berries among the slightly turning leaves.

In other news, my 2013 Calendars are here.  They will soon be available for sale on this blog.
They are small desktop size and have a different painting for each month.  This is always a very popular item  and makes a wonderful gift for art loving friends and neighbors.

Please help me expand the influence of my paintings.  If you think a friend may enjoy receiving my daily paintings please feel free to forward it.  They may subscribe themselves by going to my  blog and hitting the subscribe button.

Thank you for following my art!

Dogwood-North Carolina's State Flower

Dogwood-North Carolina's State Flower

Every N.C. Fourth Grader studies North Carolina history.
I did, and all three of my children have done the same.  It turns out to
be really fun and some wonderful projects are produced.  As a result,
most of us have pretty good knowledge of our state, well beyond the
state flower and the state bird.  Of course, my favorite story is how N.C.
came to be called the Tar Heel state.

Pink Dogwood

Pink Dogwood      Sold
The Dogwood trees are all in bloom
here in North Carolina.  Ours seem to have
more blossoms than usual.  I always look forward
to April for this reason.
