Health and Prosperity

Health And Prosperity

We have a wonderful culinary tradition here that promises you an entire year of good luck if you will only partake of certain delicious foods on New Year's Day.  The first of these is collards, which are tender, flavorful greens.  The second is blackeye peas with hog jowl, a meat that tastes much like bacon and gives great flavor to the blackeye peas.
The painting above is one of my very large(18"long) collard leaves on the cutting board.  Not all the leaves are this large, but many are and they are a work of art in themselves with all the beautiful shades of green and pale yellow veins.
