Boat Cart

This is the first study for a larger painting of this sailboat cart in Paris.
I had fun painting these boats from a photo I took last year in the Luxembourg Gardens.
The background was extremely of things, a monument, people in the distance, etc.
Sometimes it is not easy to decide what to leave in and what to take out. In this case, I left almost everything in the background out, just to focus on the cart.

Liz Wiltzen wrote a great blog post yesterday about what she learned in Kevin McPherson's workshop and much of it had to do with simplifying. I didn't see it until after I had painted this and what she talked about will definitely be helpful on my next study. You can read her post here.

  1. Love this and can't wait to see the finished painting.

  2. Hi Fay! Thanks so much for posting the link to Liz's blog. I read the whole thing. Great info and details. You are always so helpful!
