View From Fish Beach

This is the start of a painting one early morning after I set up my easel on Fish Beach, looking toward the dock. I was able to block in the basic shapes before leaving the site. I think that I captured the color notes that I saw and I will continue working on this one in my studio. It is a 9 x 12" oil on linen panel. The sky was beautiful, so I plan to work on that area to give it more depth. There were beach roses growing in one area on the rocks and other things I would like to bring to completion.

Thank you for following my blog.

Nine Of Thirty

Early Evening Ferry, 6 x 8 " oil on canvas panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100, free shipping

This is the ferry to Bald Head Island, North Carolina; the ride is about twenty minutes long and never fails to thrill me with its beauty and balmy breezes as we ride. I have painted this several times and it turns out very different each time.
The ferry leaves from Southport and we soon pass the Yacht Basin where a couple of our favorite eateries are.  The Provision Company serves at the dock and has great views of the waterway and yacht basin, Frying Pan is a much taller building up on stilts with a magnificent view of Caswell Beach and also Bald Head. It is still summer here so there will be many visits to the beach before the season is over.

Hazy Day

Ferry Terminal, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

This is where we arrived back from the Island on Saturday after a week of fun and painting at Bald Head.  What a great time we had, as always, and accomplished a lot while there.  Now it's hard getting into the routine of the studio but with temps in the nineties, I think I'll stay indoors to paint for a while.

Sunset Ferry

Sunset Ferry

This is the ferry I love to take... Southport to Bald Head Island.  It is just a twenty minute ride but there's a lot to look at on the way.  I always try to sit up top for the best view with the wind blowing my hair. Once you are on the island, there are no cars, just golf carts. The view to the left is the yacht basin and marina at Southport and you can see one of  my favorite restaurants, Provision Company.
