Grey Feathers

Ruffled Feathers, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2015, Fay Terry

This sea gull was spotted on Crescent Beach while I was walking one windy morning. The feathers were lifted up by the wind which  seemed to surprise the bird.  I love the reflection of  the legs on the wet sand.

Oak Island Seagull

Oak Island Gull, 8 x 8 " oil on linen panel, ©2015, Fay Terry
$130 plus shipping and tax

This is one of the many seagulls living on the Island enjoying time on the sand. I take pictures of these birds all year long and always like painting them.  I toned the canvas with thio violet and let it dry before I started the painting.
This is a brand of canvas panel I have not used previously, now I realize that it absorbs the paint like a sponge.  I repainted it after watching the image get lighter and lighter.

Here's a little known fact:
Seagulls can drink both fresh and salt water. Most animals are unable to do this, but seagulls have a special pair of glands right above their eyes which is specifically designed to flush the salt from their systems through openings in the bill.

I hope you enjoy this little glimpse of the beach and the bird.

After The Dive

Pelican Briefly On The Water, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100 and free shipping

I found this Pelican on Paint My Photo; the color of the water and the restful pose of the large bird drew me in so I had to paint it. I am quite enamored of Pelicans so the great  number of them I saw over the Fourth in Southport  made me happy.  I was a little concerned that they were not around earlier in the season.

Waiting and Watching

Enjoying Birdseed, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

This Cardinal was busy eating and watching the squirrels eat some of the birdseed which she thinks belongs only to the birds. I don't think there are any bird feeders that are truly squirrel proof so the birds will just have to share.

State Fair Chicken

Tilly, 5 x 7 " oil on canvas panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100. free shipping

This is a beautiful, happy chicken who enjoys watching people and strutting around. This will look great sitting on a little display easel in a kitchen. Need a Christmas gift for someone special?

I've been watching football today and I'm happy that we won the game in Raleigh.

Also happy that we get that extra hour back tonight and it won't be quite so dark when I get up in the morning.

Night Owl

 Bright Eyes, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

SOLD

Owls are fun to paint and are just one of the many creatures sometimes associated with Halloween.
Bats, black cats, spiders, and a few others are among this group.

Owls are unable to move their eyes within their sockets very much, which means they must turn their entire head to see in a different direction.  Since owls have forward facing eyes, they have very well-developed binocular vision. That means vision that incorporates images from two eyes simultaneously. The slight differences between the two images, seen from slightly different positions, give the owl excellent depth perception.

Have a great week-end! Thanks for viewing my art.
