Apples In Glass

This was my painting project today, another twelve by twenty four inch canvas.  I still have a few things I want to tweak just a bit but it is basically complete. I bought this glass container at Pier 1 a couple of years ago and it comes in handy to make a pretty centerpiece.  Is it too soon to start thinking about Christmas?  I have a friend who addresses all her Christmas cards during the summer when she is sitting around the pool.  I am not that diligent. I hope you are having a relaxing and fun Labor Day week-end!

This was great fun to paint and I hope to do more of these flowers because my Hydrangea are starting another round of blooms and usually they will keep going until about October.  I'm still looking for more ways to use the green apples and I have an idea for tomorrow so tune in again to see them in a new setting.

I decided to try a larger painting with apples today and picked flowers to put in this pitcher.  This is a fun size painting and is headed to ONE ELEVEN MAIN in Aberdeen as soon as it is dry and I can frame it.  It will probably be there by Tuesday, along with some other new paintings.

I love the color of Granny Smiths and I can actually remember the first time I ever heard of them and bought one at a roadside fruit stand on Cape Cod.  I thought then it was the best apple I had ever eaten.  I still like them, but some are better than others and sometimes they are a little bit hard and a little bit tart.  The color, though is always beautiful and that is 

why I have decided to do a series of these apple paintings.  So...more will follow.  This looks so nice in a wide gold frame that I put it in.  It will be sold unframed unless you specify otherwise.

Can you tell which two are related?

The Granny Smith just doesn't fit in with the Galas,

who are discussing old times growing up in the same orchard.

They are small with very long stems. When I was a kid we used to twist the stem

while saying the alphabet and whatever letter you were on when it came out was

the first initial of your future husband.  It never did come out on the "B" so I guess

it wasn't a very accurate predictor!
