This is not a very colorful duck except for the nose and feet. We see ducks like these when we walk around the reservoir, but they don't have these bluish grey bills. I am not sure where I took the photo but I know it was somewhere in California.

This is an Ancona chicken which has a distinct plumage pattern of black feathers tipped with white. They are named for Ancona, Italy, where this breed has been raised for centuries. They came to the U.S. by way of England in the nineteenth century. These chickens have a white ear lobe which is a predictor of white shelled eggs.  A chicken with red ear lobes generally lays brown eggs.

This black rooster looks mighty fine surrounded by all these primary colors. I think you can tell I'm in a spring frame of mind. It's not easy to stay indoors in my studio on these pretty days.

I hope you enjoy this rooster and there are even more on the way!
