Cooling Off By The Pond

Bullfrog Shadow, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

Sitting on the rocks by the pond and ready to hit the water any minute!
I'd say that's a great place to be on this 98 degree day, one of the first really hot days we have had.
Don't let this one get away, he's too cute and sings beautifully.

Thanks for viewing my art.

Out Of Hibernation

Fay Terry, BULLFROG BUDDY, 6 x 6" oil on gessobord panel, ©2012

This is your Saturday painting for the day which I forgot to post yesterday!
I remember sitting down at my computer to write and it was not until I was falling asleep in another city last night that I realized I had been called away to do something else. Alas, my computer was at home.
The bullfrogs in our little koi pond came out of their winter sleep a little early this spring. They love sunning themselves on the rock ledge above the water. I am fascinated by them and love their deep throaty calls.  Here are a few facts about these beautiful creatures.

Bullfrogs lay up to 20,000 eggs in huge sheets attached to underwater plants.
They are most active at night and their loud call can be heard up to a quarter of a mile.
Bullfrogs are the largest frogs in North America.

Bullfrog On The Rocks

Bullfrog On The Rocks
6 x 6 in. oil on panel

There is something  comforting to me about the sound of the frogs, making their loud moo-like noises.  A summer night wouldn't be the same without them.  I look forward every spring to their coming out.  They are very much at home in the pond and can usually be found sitting in the sun  during the day. The circular spot on the side of his head is an eardrum, which is easily recognizable on all Bullfrogs.

Bullfrog In The Fishpond

Bullfrog In The Fish Pond

The high temperature here today was 96 degrees.  I did some yard work early this morning and just before going in the house, I took a look at the pond where we have our koi and there next to the edge sat Mr. Bullfrog.  He looked extremely comfortable in the cool water of the shady pond. I heard him this evening making as much noise as ever.
