Kitchen Helper

Candleholder With Big Eyes, 6 x 6 " oil on Gessobord panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

Stormy weather has caused us to lose power on several occasions recently. It's a good thing we have this cute little owl in the kitchen ready to light up when we are suddenly plunged into darkness. When he's not busy spreading light, this little owl just looks cute on the table.

We have a severe thunderstorm watch and flash flood warnings right now so he may be called into service. I hope your week-end has been less rainy than ours.

Peach Season

Sandhills Peaches, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

Several trips have been made recently to get the best peaches around. I always head toward Eagle Springs, which is near Pinehurst, to get peaches at Kalawi Farms.  When I'm on my way to or from Charlotte I can't pass their stand (which includes Ben's Homemade Ice Cream) without stopping for peaches, cantaloupes, Silver Queen corn, and other wonderful produce.
The peaches are fun to paint and even more fun to eat.

On The River

Two Seater, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

This was done from one of the many boat photos that I have taken over the years, mostly in Maine.
Today was busy so I ended up painting very late in the day.  Hope you enjoy this peaceful spot.
Contact me if you are interested in this one.

Bunny In The Yard

Patient Bunny, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

We have lots of bunnies running around in the yard and garden lately. They can usually be seen in the early evening. I was watching three of them that arrived together and this one watched as one ran up the hill and the other munched on grass. When it was time to leave, all three moved on together.

Beach Reading

Striped Chair, 8 x 8 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

SOLD

This painting sold at Sunset River Gallery this past week end and I am so happy that it is going to be hanging in a home in a far away state. I love it when my paintings travel.
This is one of my favorite scenes in Kennebunkport, Maine, at Mother's Beach.

Looking For Gulls

Uncrowded Beach, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100
Seagulls are interesting birds to watch. This one has more brown feathers than gray ones. The beach was empty and he seemed to be looking for other gulls to hang out with.
I am very pleased with the way this came out as I did the entire painting by changing the color slightly each time I put down a stroke and then leaving it alone, which I call "lay it and leave it". Sometimes a painting gets very homogenized by blending strokes.

Beautiful Dreamer

Luna Moth, 8 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100.

This is one of my favorite moths, large and beautiful. It is rare to see more than one in the same summer. I have not seen one around in several years. This one was still sleeping attached to the brick wall beside the front door early one morning.
Let me know if you are interested in this one.

Red Berries

Local Strawberries, 6x6" oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

There are still some local strawberries available, but the season here is winding down. The berries grown close by are the best  but it's still nice that fresh strawberries are in the stores almost year round.

This painting is from a day of watching children play on the beach at Oak Island. It is for sale at  Sunset  River Gallery. This little girl was very active and playful with her huge hat.

Coastal Bounty

Carolina Crab, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

This was really fun to paint and I was timing it while trying to paint quickly.  I used only three colors plus white. I used Cerulean blue, Cad red light, and cad yellow medium. I often use Cerulean and Cad red light  to make some nice greys but this is the first time I've used the three colors together.

Did you know that if the live crab spends some time in the fridge, it will not move around much while it's posing for you? The other way is something my husband's grandfather taught him years ago down in Little River, SC. You can rub the underside of the crab and put it completely to sleep.

Palm Tree

Charleston Charm, 8 x 8" oil on cradled panel, ready to hang ©2013, Fay Terry

$150
There is no place like Charleston, South Carolina, for a great week-end getaway. It remains dependably true to its history and heritage. There are many things new in Charleston, but they seem to have made the city even better.

Stripes

Summer Toy, 5 x 7" oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

There is so much inspiration right now and I feel as if I will never run out of things I want to paint.
We planted some new flowers in the garden this evening and I can hardly wait to use them as subject matter. I won't tell you what they are so it will be a surprise.
In other garden news, my Confederate Rose plant is making a comeback to life with new green growth.

Favorite Vegetable

Asparagus For Dinner, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel

I love vegetables and these have always been my favorite. So lucky that they are available almost all the time in the grocery stores.
It has been a nice Father's Day at our house and I hope it has been at yours.

Needs Wind

Pinwheel At Rest, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

This is in preparation for a much larger painting that I have planned. I have painted so many pinwheels in the past. Now I am working on some large ones in oil. I have always  loved them and they were one of  my trademarks when I did watercolor paintings.

Southern Pines Magnolia

On A Low Branch, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100
This is one of the flowers I photographed the other day in Southern Pines.  The railroad tracks run in the center of the main street so each side has one way traffic and a wide middle area of beautiful plantings of Magnolia trees, Azaleas, and other flowers.  The trees are very old and tall but fortunately still have most of their low branches so flowers dangle where they are easy to see and enjoy.
My husband loves these so we have six or seven Magnolia trees in our yard, too.

Cooling Off By The Pond

Bullfrog Shadow, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

Sitting on the rocks by the pond and ready to hit the water any minute!
I'd say that's a great place to be on this 98 degree day, one of the first really hot days we have had.
Don't let this one get away, he's too cute and sings beautifully.

Thanks for viewing my art.

At The Beach

Captain Charlie's House, 24 x 20" oil on canvas,©2013, Fay Terry

I worked on a few revisions to this painting today and I am much happier with it.
This will be going to Sunset River Gallery for  a show where my group, Southeastern Artists,
will be the featured artists from June 19th to July 27th.

Please stop by if you are in the area. Our theme is Life At The Beach.

Picked from the tree

Magnolia, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

Creamy white Magnolias are everywhere right now. Maybe it's all the rain we've had this spring, but they are more abundant and beautiful than I ever remember seeing them. I was in Southern Pines this morning and took lots of photos and I plan to go back and take more when the sun is out.
I love the shiny green leaves and the faint lemony scent of the flowers.

Contact me if you are interested in this one.

Gray Cup

Camellia With Gray Cup, 10 x 10" oil on canvas panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$175

I had fun with all the shadows in this one and the colors, too. I decided since the cup was gray I would make everything else a little brighter. Camellias are always good still life subjects and I love the touch of yellow in their centers.
It's hard to believe the week-end is almost over. Where did it go?

Thanks for viewing my blog. I hope you'll leave me a comment, I love hearing from you!

Summer Colors

Flowers And Apples, 8 x 10" oil on canvas, ©2013, Fay Terry

The colors in this make me happy and the white pitcher reflects the warm colors in the room.
I hope you are having a great week-end!

Sunny View

Hilltop Cottage, 12x12" oil on wrapped canvas, ©2011, Fay Terry

Sold

This is an old favorite of mine and on this stormy week-end it made me feel good to look at this house in the sun.
I hope you have a great week-end.
Thanks for looking at my art.

Time For Fishin'

Pretty Ugly Fish, 9 x 12" oil on panel

This is my colorful version of a type of fish I used to catch repeatedly when my husband and I were first married.  We spent time at Little River in South Carolina and fished and crabbed from a little John boat in the Intracoastal waterway. One fish I caught sometimes was a tough, wart covered, ugly fish, and it hurt your hands just to touch it. We always threw it back in the water but there must have been plenty more.

Contact me if you are interested in this one or any other painting on my blog.
If you receive this by email, just click on Fay Terry Paintings at the top of the page to go to the full blog for contact info. This is also where you can leave comments, and I love to hear from you!

Thank you for viewing this and all my other art.

Pencil Trio

Color Scheming, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

This is the second of my colored pencil paintings. I used a favorite combination, Cerulean and Cobalt Turquoise for the foreground blue. I am happy with the way this turned out as I set this up using a warm color for the back and I think it worked well.
I want to paint outside tomorrow, but more rain is in the forecast.
Thank you for viewing my art!

Favorite Fat Pencils

Crayons français , 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

These are my favorite pencils for drawing and adding color.  They are very large in diameter, and fun to use.
They came from Paris, a gift from my brother who knew I would love them.

Party Decorations

Party Pinwheel, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

We attended two wonderful parties this past week-end and I have some great photos of the beautiful decorations.  You may already know from following my blog that I love pinwheels, which are one of my favorite things to paint. I decided to keep the green paper and the background very simple for now and focused on values.  More later...

Summer Garden

Coreopsis, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

This is blooming in my garden right now and it blooms all summer. Right now there are hundreds of flowers and they are very bright and love the sun.
It's been a great week-end and we are just back from Greenville, South Carolina where we had lots of fun with family and friends.
Happy June!

Delicate Bloom

Swedish Anemone, 6 x 6" oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

SOLD

This is the last of my series of flowers from the magical island of Olund, Sweden.
I hope you've enjoyed seeing some of the beauty found there.
Sometime soon I may paint the animals that I saw there, including a beautiful pet rabbit, black sheep, cows, and more.
