Sunflowers and a favorite artist

Sunflowers and Sweet Potato Vine, 16 x 20" oil on linen

I decided to paint large today with a still life set up in my studio. Rain started early; the flowers helped make it sunny while I worked. It is not yet finished, so I will continue to work on it. The tablecloth and the background are darker than they appear in the photo. I tried several adjustments and did not succeed in making it more like the painting.

On another note, I was in Rockland, Maine to visit two of my favorite places, The Farnsworth Museum and Dowling Walsh Gallery. Lucky me, I also saw one of my favorite painters. I had already been upstairs where his most recent paintings were just being installed. Colin's paintings just keep getting better every year and he is incredibly nice. Unfortunately, we are not standing near one of his  paintings. See Colin Page's website HERE.

Peachy

Peaches And Pink Stripes, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100 and free shipping

What a great week-end this has been with a trip to the beach and getting home in time to paint these peaches from a set up in my studio.  I finally tried another one of my striped towels, bright pink this time.
Hope you've had a fun week-end!

Fresh Peaches

Pink Plate, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

Available at Franklin Square Gallery

I am still enjoying the peaches, both as still life objects and delicious, dripping with juice, sweet eats.
I have been experimenting with color combinations always with the same striped dishtowel. Lots of fun, and gorgeous weather here these days with low humidity and pleasant temperatures: this is not what we are accustomed to in August.
I hope your week-end is full of delight.

Ripe

Carolina Peaches, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

We've been enjoying lots of good peaches recently; after all, we live in the Sandhills area of North Carolina which is renowned for its peaches. A big bag of these were given to my husband on Friday and they are juicy and delicious. We took some to the beach and ate peaches on the deck while we watched all the boats, people, and pelicans passing by. We had a great time and now that we're home some much needed rain has arrived in Pinehurst.
I hope your week-end has been fun and relaxing!

Peach Season

Sandhills Peaches, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

Several trips have been made recently to get the best peaches around. I always head toward Eagle Springs, which is near Pinehurst, to get peaches at Kalawi Farms.  When I'm on my way to or from Charlotte I can't pass their stand (which includes Ben's Homemade Ice Cream) without stopping for peaches, cantaloupes, Silver Queen corn, and other wonderful produce.
The peaches are fun to paint and even more fun to eat.

New Rituals

Peach Plate, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2012, Fay Terry

This was my breakfast this morning after an early painting start. Summer seems to call for some new ways of doing things. I plan to begin painting first thing in the morning to see what it will feel like. I have always admired five a.m. painters like Lisa Daria who paints before the day gets busy.
I may not make it that early, but I have been thinking how enjoyable these summer mornings are, so I may as well make the best use of their beautiful light , coolness, and energy.
This will enable me to post earlier, too, which got me thinking after a friend told me she would not go to bed until she received my daily painting.  What a nice compliment!

Early Peaches

Kalawi Farms Peaches, 6x6" oil on panel ©2012 Fay Terry

We stopped on the way home from the mountains to buy local peaches and bought these Ruby Prince  beauties. Kalawi Farms, a favorite orchard, is also known for "Ben's homemade ice cream" but Bill and I avoided the temptation and quickly returned to the car before even looking at the list of today's flavors.
The peaches here are ripening early due to the mild winter and spring weather. It may be a short season for peaches because they will finish earler than usual, too.

Peach Trio

Peach Trio
Here are some more South Carolina peaches. I love it when they still have some leaves on them. These have some interesting shadows which were fun to paint.

Juicy Peaches

Juicy Peaches
This was so much fun to paint with all the reflections of peachy colors on the stainless steel colander.  I love painting things from above when they are in some sort of container.  I hope you are enjoying peaches right now as much as I am.

I Love Peaches

I Love Peaches
Here I go bragging about North Carolina again.  We have some of the best peaches grown anywhere. I am so happy to live in one of the best peach growing counties in the state, Moore County. The Sandhills have long been known for great peaches, especially the ones from Auman Peach Orchards in West End, just a short drive from Pinehurst.
There are a couple of places out that way that have great homemade peach ice cream, too.
