30 Paintings In 30 Days-Day 26

Tipping Point, 5 x 7 " acrylic on gessobord panel, ©2015, Fay Terry

$100, free shipping

While I was painting this, I thought the pear on the left would surely topple over; as luck would have it, that did not happen. The light on these three was fun to capture as well as the long curvy stems.
I am planning to stick to my theme for the final days of the challenge, but I am eager to move on to some new subject matter. The fruit and vegetable still lifes have been great, but I want to do some landscapes soon.

30 Paintings in 30 Days-Day One

The Big Apple, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2015, Fay Terry

$100 plus shipping

I am enthusiastically beginning another thirty day painting challenge with Leslie Saeta and hundreds of artists from all over the world. I can't think of a better start to the new year! (except collards and black eyed peas) I am doing this for the third time, enjoying it more every time I participate. Take a look at all the paintings here.
This month, I plan to focus on still life paintings, with an emphasis on fruits and vegetables, two of my favorite food categories.

The title of today's painting started me thinking about how the nickname for New York City first began.  John J. Fitz Gerald first used the term The Big Apple in reference to N.Y. horse-racing. He wrote articles for the New York Morning Telegraph.  He explained his use in a February 18, 1924 column under the headline "Around the Big Apple".
"The Big Apple is the dream of every lad that ever threw a leg over a thoroughbred and the goal of all horsemen.  There's only one Big Apple.  That's New York."

Thirty Of Thirty

Sea Island Golf Club, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100 plus shipping

This was the view from our balcony when we stayed at the Lodge at Sea Island where my husband attended a meeting. I did a few drawings of the golfers while I was sitting outside. I decided to paint this one because I liked the abstract feel of the major shapes and the fun of placing the tiny golfers in the composition. The blue in the back is water, and this course has lots of it. This ends my series of Island paintings, which turned out to be a good theme.

The thirty day challenge ends today and I want to thank Leslie Saeta for inviting us to participate. I learned a lot, met some great artists and improved my studio painting time by starting earlier in the day.

Since we live in a town known for its numerous golf courses, particularly Pinehurst Number Two,  which recently hosted the Men's and Women's US Opens, I think I may spend more time doing some larger golf paintings. I am looking forward to getting back to working on some commissions and a couple of really big paintings.
Thanks for following my progress through September's challenge and for your comments.

Pink and green

Spring Fresh, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, © Fay Terry

This is a painting subject that I have been wanting to do again. Every time I buy asparagus, I plan to paint them and then I end up cooking them before I get the chance. One day soon I am going to set up another asparagus still life from a different angle. In the meantime, hope you enjoy this one.

Salad Days

Lettuce In Wooden Bowl,  6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

I planted lettuce seeds and hope to have a good crop of salad greens in about forty days. This painting was done from a photo of our lettuce several years ago. Did you know that the common name for arugula is salad rocket? By either name it is one of my favorite salad greens.

Hope you had a great week end and thanks for looking at my art.

Party Decorations

Party Pinwheel, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

We attended two wonderful parties this past week-end and I have some great photos of the beautiful decorations.  You may already know from following my blog that I love pinwheels, which are one of my favorite things to paint. I decided to keep the green paper and the background very simple for now and focused on values.  More later...

Something New

Christmas Coffee Break, 6 x 6 " oil on museum panel, ©2012, Fay Terry

I have been wanting to paint these glass ornaments for quite a while so I set this up in my shadowbox with a piece of glass under it so that I would have some good reflections.  This was so much fun to paint ( I know I say that a lot).
If you are looking for one of a kind gifts, this would look great setting on the little easel that comes with it. The price reflects the 25% off sale that I am having through the end of December, so let me know and I will gift wrap it for you, too.

All Grown Up!

All Grown Up!   SOLD
Some of you may remember the painting of the baby lettuce
plants.  I am happy to report that their beautiful green-ness
provided me with another painting-op today.  It rained most of the day
with intermittent bursts of sunshine, at which time I picked lots of lettuce.
This was really fun to paint.
