Sunflowers and a favorite artist

I decided to paint large today with a still life set up in my studio. Rain started early; the flowers helped make it sunny while I worked. It is not yet finished, so I will continue to work on it. The tablecloth and the background are darker than they appear in the photo. I tried several adjustments and did not succeed in making it more like the painting.

On another note, I was in Rockland, Maine to visit two of my favorite places, The Farnsworth Museum and Dowling Walsh Gallery. Lucky me, I also saw one of my favorite painters. I had already been upstairs where his most recent paintings were just being installed. Colin's paintings just keep getting better every year and he is incredibly nice. I haven't painted radishes in quite a while, in fact, I have not bought any for a long time.

We usually plant them in our garden every spring but I needed these for a recipe that I have been wanting to try. I'll let you know how it turns out.

This is the first of many bell peppers that will be coming out of the garden. All the rain has been wonderful, but I think the lack of sun has slowed things down a bit. I'll be using this tonight when I make dinner.  I love the shape and size of this one.

There are so many vegetables that are fun to paint and mushrooms fall into that category because each one is unique in size, shape, and color. 

This has been a great family week-end and I enjoyed spending time with my children. I love being a mom and having so many great memories of their growing up years.

Colored Glass, Day Six

These are my two favorite glass objects right now and I put the lemon in so there would be a non-transparent object in the painting. I am in love with the way the dish and the glass cast subtle reflections of their color onto the tablecloth.  I just wish I had more glass objects to use. Clear glass is just not as much fun as the colors.

Today and yesterday have both been great painting days for me.  I seem to be getting into a rhythm that I was unable to access during the busy holiday preparation and celebration times. When I follow the same pattern each day I am so much more productive and happy with my paintings.

Mushroom Patterns

This is another painting in my mushroom series. I have decided I really like working in series because one idea leads to another and when the subject is the same for a few days, it is not a big leap to the next painting.  I love setting up a still life in my shadow box and then thinking of another way I want to paint  the subject before I have even finished the first one.

Today was a good day to work in my studio while the temperature outside hit triple digits. Thankfully the water restrictions for lawn and garden have been lifted we could do some watering early this morning.

Melon Eclipse

This new melon arrived last night and demanded to be painted this morning. Notice how she completely stole the spotlight from her sister who is now relegated to the back corner. There will be more watermelons when I return from the beach in a couple of days.  I guess I should say more melon paintings as I hope these don't multiply while I am away.
