Z Is For Zinnias

This oil painting recently sold at the gallery in Calabash on the very same day that I planted my zinnia seeds for a wonderful 2015 crop of my favorite summer flower. I ordered the seeds from Park Seed Company in South Carolina because their seeds are always the very best. I looked at them this morning and the seedlings have emerged from their bio-sponges indoors in the bio-dome planter. I hope to paint many colorful paintings of them this summer. The sponges with the seedlings go directly into the ground. Zinnias love the sun and the heat, and we always have plenty of that.

I am planting vegetables and flowers in the garden and having fun getting an early start.  These pink petunias really were bright in a shiny hot pink pack of six plants. I love these longer days when I feel as if I am getting so many things accomplished.

I slid this flat of Geraniums onto the driveway this morning because they have been in a holding pattern in the shade, waiting to be potted.  We may not even get to them today, but if not planted, at least they have been painted.  The minute I saw the dappled light on the drive, I grabbed my easel and started having fun.

I have been a fan of dappled light since long before I started painting.  I am not sure why it seems so magical to me but it always looks as if light has arrived to start a party and I find it irresistible.
