Under The Umbrella

Sweet Taters, 8 x 10" oil on canvas, ©Fay Terry
S0LD

We have about five Farmers Markets in various places in town and each location sets up on a different day of the week.  They are great places to paint, if it is not too hot. This was painted in the town of Aberdeen, not far from Pinehurst and Southern Pines.

When sweet potatoes are available I buy a bushel and keep them in a cool place in the house. They are usually better tasting than what the grocery stores have, but now most of the stores are including much more local produce than ever before. I noticed that collards are already in the produce section so I'll be enjoying North Carolina greens very soon.

I hope you have a great week-end. Thanks for viewing my art.

Seven Of Thirty

Sea Island Trees, 5 x 5 " watercolor crayon drawing

I did this a few minutes ago sitting on the porch and looking out to the ocean. There is a wide expanse of bright green grass and part of it is on the golf course. The square format was a good way to start playing with shapes and values since I know that I want to do  a larger painting in a longer, more narrow shape.
We have had a wonderful week-end here with plenty to see and do, including seeing many gorgeous paintings in the Sea Island collection.

Rosy Memories

Classic Beauty, 4 x 4 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

Many of the roses I have been painting will soon be available framed at One Eleven Main in Aberdeen.
The shadows are so much fun to paint. I love the variations in the petals.
I have not been to to the Raleigh Rose Garden for several years but I plan to visit there soon. I had  my bridal photos taken there in 1976, shortly before our wedding day and it holds lots of other good memories from when  I was growing up. My ballet teacher always had our recitals at the Raleigh Little Theater, which is right beside the Rose Garden.
