The rain continues with very brief intervals of sunshine. It was during one sunny interval that I was able to paint this before the clouds returned.  We still have a bit of blue sky without the bright sun and shadows.

My "Endless Summer" Hydrangeas have not bloomed once all summer because I pruned them too much and too late.  Last evening I was on the porch and saw an amazing sight--lots of blooms on six plants. It's going to be nice to have October blue Hydrangeas!

There are two large sunflowers blooming now and I couldn't wait to paint them. I painted this yesterday and decided to change the background color this morning. I am very pleased with it now.

I no longer take blue skies for granted after this rainy and cloudy summer so it sure is nice to see some Carolina blue up there.

I did not miss a day of painting and posting in 2013 until July, just before my travels began. Soon I will be going to Maine and Canada to do some painting so will post as often as I am able. Looking forward to Lobster!

Sunflower Morning

It's so nice to see the sun in the morning while I'm having my coffee. I will never take sunny days for granted now that this winter has been so unusually gray. There have been fewer bright days than we normally have here.

I am happy with the colors in this painting and I am still enjoying Patti Mollica's book on color and learning a lot.

The Short Version

I used to think that sunflowers must go in a tall vase to accommodate long stems, but ideas change.  This tiny pot is my vase today with a small cup inside to hold water. I found the lilac colored pot at Crate And Barrel accompanied by the cutest little matching saucer in the world.  Did I remember to use the saucer in the painting? No, indeed, I was in too much of a hurry to start painting my morning still life set-up. This calls for another use of my latest purchase very soon.  You're going to love it with the saucer!
