Painting In Maine

I had a wonderful afternoon in Yarmouth, Maine visiting and painting with my friend
Bobbi Heath, a terrific plein air painter. Tomorrow  I'll post my painting from the lovely spot we went to.

Morning Purchase

Four Fresh Figs, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100, free shipping

I'm so happy to see figs at the market, especially Black Mission Figs which are my favorite.  These look  more purple in the photo although the painting is darker with a deep maroon color for the figs. I have tried adjusting the color and it doesn't help.
Now that I've painted them, I am ready to cut up a couple of them for a nice sweet treat.

Ripe

Carolina Peaches, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

We've been enjoying lots of good peaches recently; after all, we live in the Sandhills area of North Carolina which is renowned for its peaches. A big bag of these were given to my husband on Friday and they are juicy and delicious. We took some to the beach and ate peaches on the deck while we watched all the boats, people, and pelicans passing by. We had a great time and now that we're home some much needed rain has arrived in Pinehurst.
I hope your week-end has been fun and relaxing!

Weighing In

Small Scale Farming, 30 x 40 " oil on canvas, ©2014, Fay Terry
(from photo by Thomas Fisher)

available

This one is fresh off the easel; I finished it late yesterday afternoon but didn't get to photograph it until this morning. I thank my brother for the excellent photo taken at the Carrboro Farmer's Market.  I loved painting this as well as the appropriate title, which also came from Tom.
There is always something new to paint, in this case sweet potatoes, which were a bit of a challenge and make a nice contribution to any farm stand.

Carving

Blue Bird, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100, free shipping

This little bird is hand carved and painted by a family in South Carolina. We purchased it in Asheville at the Gallery Of The Mountains at the Grove Park Inn.  I just found it the other day, still in the box. Lance Long and his wife and seven children all work on the carvings as a family business and they do beautiful work.

Shades

Summer Necessity, 5 x 7 " oil on panel, © Fay Terry

The sun has been going in and out behind the rain clouds. I walked around Reservoir Park after yoga this morning and figured I wouldn't need sunglasses for the gray skies.  Brightness seems to arrive   when you are not prepared. This afternoon is nice and sunny.  Unpredictable!

After The Dive

Pelican Briefly On The Water, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100 and free shipping

I found this Pelican on Paint My Photo; the color of the water and the restful pose of the large bird drew me in so I had to paint it. I am quite enamored of Pelicans so the great  number of them I saw over the Fourth in Southport  made me happy.  I was a little concerned that they were not around earlier in the season.

Back To Work

Summer's Grace, 9 x 12 " oil on gessobord, ©2014, Fay Terry

Available in Gallery

I am so pleased with this painting, which is why I'm offering such a good  deal on a 9 x 12. I want to find a good home for this lovely floral.

I took a week off spending time in Charlotte and on Oak Island. When I got home today, I could hardly wait to get in my studio. I cut one large flower and put it beside my easel; I loved painting it with great spontaneity.
I hope ya'll had a great Fourth. We had one day of wind, rain, and thunder, as Hurricane Arthur passed through NC. The rest of the week-end made up for it with gorgeous sunny weather, warm temps and soft breezes. Our family had lots of fun being together, too.
