As Promised

Rose Jaune, 4 x 4 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

This week in my studio is flying by. I've been doing tiny roses and huge paintings, too. Right now it's beach themes that I am painting and I never run out of ideas for coastal scenes.
Soon  I will be painting on an island along with my good friend Teej, who'll be writing articles.  She has been published in all the major Civil War magazines on numerous occasions and is an amazing Civil War researcher and writer.

We decided leave our husbands here and go to the beach during the U.S. Open men's tournament which will be followed by the women's tournament on the same course, Pinehurst Number 2. Our town looks more beautiful than ever with all the preparation that has been done, but it is going to be very crowded for those two weeks.

Shadowy

Earth Song, 4 x 4 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

These roses all have so many changes in color and lots of warms and cools. I think this is what makes them such a challenge but also such fun to paint. It would be easier if they were larger, but they look so cute in their tiny frames. Look for a yellow rose tomorrow!

Sunny

Living Color, 4 x 4 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

I saw many different colors inside this rose and I painted what I saw. It was because of the way the sun was lighting up the center part of the flower and I had fun trying to capture all the subtle color changes.
Happy Memorial Day! Hopefully many people will not have to work tomorrow and can reflect on the meaning of the day and enjoy time with family and friends.

Brilliant

Rose Pose, 4 x 4 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

I am framing these tiny rose paintings and they will soon be available at One Eleven Main in Aberdeen.
They always surprise me when they are finished. The shadows are the most fun.
It has been a beautiful day today and we are finding it relaxing to stay at home for the holiday week-end.

Two Tone Rose

 Love Messenger, 4 x 4 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

This is one of my favorites, perfect for someone who loves pink roses and also loves yellow ones. I don't know what variety this one is, so I named it in the title.

Pink

This is another one of the roses from Southport. I'm enjoying these tiny
paintings.
Posting from my phone while I am
on the road.

Tiny Floral

Southport Rose, 4 x 4 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

On a recent trip to Southport, I saw the most beautiful rose garden bordering the sidewalk at Lois Jane's  Riverview Inn.  It was mid morning and the sunlight was making the roses look even more magical than you would think possible. I took photos of every color bloom in the garden, so there are plenty more paintings of these coming up.
I am getting some large paintings ready and these cute little tiny ones are pretty time consuming, but really fun to paint. I hope to keep producing a small one each day and then work on my large paintings.
I am going to send these in frames to ONE ELEVEN MAIN  where a lot of my paintings are sold. (thank you Betsy, Julie, and Erin) I want to have plenty of paintings available there for the two weeks of the men's and women's  US Open Golf Tournaments. We are expecting a huge number of visitors to Pinehurst and no doubt they will want to shop in Aberdeen, Southern Pines, and Pinehurst.

Boat Cart

This is the first study for a larger painting of this sailboat cart in Paris.
I had fun painting these boats from a photo I took last year in the Luxembourg Gardens.
The background was extremely of things, a monument, people in the distance, etc.
Sometimes it is not easy to decide what to leave in and what to take out. In this case, I left almost everything in the background out, just to focus on the cart.

Liz Wiltzen wrote a great blog post yesterday about what she learned in Kevin McPherson's workshop and much of it had to do with simplifying. I didn't see it until after I had painted this and what she talked about will definitely be helpful on my next study. You can read her post here.

Fun On The Water

Kayaking Poodle, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©Fay Terry

SOLD

I have several new photos of kayaks on the reservoir. We have been walking the three mile loop   nearly every day. This is an older one and I am working on a couple of new paintings because I love painting people in kayaks.
This is the old Southern Pines reservoir that is no longer used for the water supply.  Rowboats and canoes are also a frequent sight. It's a popular spot for fishing.

Hilltop Flowers

Wildflowers, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry
$100 free shipping

I spent some more time working on this painting that I posted at the beginning of the week. I knew I wanted to do more and I am happy with it now and thinking of doing it later in a larger format.
I'm looking forward to the week-end and spending time with family.
Hope you have a great week-end!

Zoo

Winking At The Birds, 18 x 36" oil on canvas ©2014, Fay Terry

This is what I have been working on today. I think it may be finished so I am going to keep it in my studio for the next few days to see if there is any tweaking I want to do. I am very happy with this painting which was done from a photo that I took at the North Carolina Zoo a few weeks ago. Several giraffes were within close range for photographing so I took some good pictures.

Waterside

Ferry Station, Southport, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©Fay Terry

This is one of my favorite places to be, getting ready to go on the ferry to Bald Head Island. That's going to be happening soon and I can hardly wait.

Pink and green

Spring Fresh, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, © Fay Terry

This is a painting subject that I have been wanting to do again. Every time I buy asparagus, I plan to paint them and then I end up cooking them before I get the chance. One day soon I am going to set up another asparagus still life from a different angle. In the meantime, hope you enjoy this one.

Bright Spot

Wildflowers, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

I spotted these flowers on the way home from yoga this morning and they were practically glowing in the morning sun. This one will get a little bit more work done on it in the next few days, then I'll post it again.
Thanks for viewing my art!

Waiting Their turn

Regal, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100, free shipping

There are lots of these Iris blooming and many more will be opening up in the next few days. I used dioxanine purple for this flower, and it turned out very close to the exact color.
This has been a beautiful week-end, especially early in the morning today.
We walked around reservoir park almost at the break of dawn. We didn't want to waste a minute of this gorgeous Sunday.
Isn't spring amazing?

Spring Air

Flowery Branch, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100 plus shipping

There are lots of shadows on this bough hanging down from the Dogwood tree. I decided to try a different color background, which I think works well with the flowers and leaves.
I went to Raleigh this morning to pick up some paintings from a show and even managed to have lunch at one of my favorite places.
The trip meant that my painting did not get done until late afternoon, but it was nice to get away to the big city!

Southern Pines Weather

Joyful Dogwood, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2014, Fay Terry

$100
free shipping

This painting is from a photo that I took last week along with lots of others on the brightest sunny day imaginable. The shadows on the leaves and flowers were gorgeous.  I am very pleased with the way this turned out and have several more that I want to paint. It makes me feel the excitement of spring each time I look at it. Maybe you can feel it too and would love to own this one.
P.S. This is my 900th post!! It doesn't seem possible.
