Dog Cookies

Do You Have A Dog?, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

My dogs love to earn a treat and we call them cookies. If they think they might get a cookie for a reward, they move quickly to obey and sometimes they are not sure so they do it anyway.
This little yellow bowl is one of my favorites and I love to paint it no matter what I put in it.

Thank you for all your comments and emails, I love hearing from you!

After The Rain

First Blooms, 8 x 8 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

SOLD

We had over three inches of rain last night and when the sun finally came out everything just seemed to glow. I looked at these on Friday and the buds were tightly closed but this morning they had begun to open and show their gorgeous colors.
This one turned out just as I envisioned it, or maybe I should say, just like my value sketch that I did before I started it.

Daisies

Napping Daisy, 6x6" oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100. free shipping

These daisies like it hot and dry and we are getting lots of rain so one of them decided to sleep through it.  Rainy days make me want to curl up with a great book.  I am reading Van Gogh, The Life by Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith. I highly recommend it.

All About Pink

Daisy, Daisy 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100, free shipping

I love these flowers for their intense color and for their sturdiness. It's hard to believe they are blooming already because we have had so many cool, cloudy days. I guess there have been enough warm days to keep them happy. You'll see more of these.

Deep Color

Patti's Tulips, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

These tulips were painted from a photo that Patti Mollica let us use in her workshop. She takes wonderful photos and generously shared them with her students.
I love the colors in this painting and the small glass jar was fun to paint, but I could paint these tulips many times and not tire of them.
Have a wonderful week-end and thanks for viewing my art.

Cheerful Colors

Sunflowers In Chinese Red Vase, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

I have always loved sunflowers and we usually grow them every summer from seeds.  When we were first married, we loved in the country not far from Raleigh and had a huge vegetable garden. We grew sunflowers so we could harvest the seeds to feed the birds in the winter. Now when we grow them I can't keep the birds from eating them all summer, so by the end of the season there are none left to save.

Just Started

This is a painting I have been working on today and I still have quite a bit to do on it. I got the canvas covered and now I will be breaking up some of the larger masses and making some adjustments. It's an old house on the inland waterway in South Carolina.

I will post it again when it is completed.
Thanks for viewing.

Blonde Bunny

Blonde Bunny, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 with free shipping

This bunny has a great personality and spends most of her time enjoying a large grassy area where she plays with other rabbits.  I love her little tooth showing and her strawberry-like nose.

I am working on some of my larger paintings this week and hope to have several completed to show you soon.

Bunny Five

Hunny Bunny, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100, free shipping

As I was posting this new bunny painting, the elusive name of the bunny who once shared my classroom one year suddenly came to mind and here he is. We let the kids vote on the name and we had been studying rhyming words.
I love painting these little rabbit faces and I recently received a few photos following my request for more bunny photos.  Thanks for sending them. These paintings have been popular and fun for me as a new subject.

Fruitful Endeavors

Glowing Closer, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

I am back to painting fruit and I love setting up a simple still life in my studio to work on a specific idea. Right now I am trying different background colors and different shadow colors based on a triad of Cerulean blue, cadmium yellow light , and Quinacridone magenta. The grayed down colors are a nice compliment to the apples and are less saturated than the pure colors used in the fruit. (The shadow is not nearly as purple as it appears in the photo.)

I spent some time this afternoon in my studio with two sleeping dogs who are worn out from running  on the beach this week end. A good time was had by all.

Red Tulips

Opening Up, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

These are some tulips I bought while I was at the workshop in Cary and they were tightly closed. They are really pretty now, leaning in every direction. I just had to use my silky ribbon around one of them to help support it and add another color. I hope you enjoy these flowers.

Special Request

Tulips, Please!  6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

Every so often, my husband asks me to paint something specific, and this time it is tulips. I have some pink tulips in the kitchen, and some red ones in another room but I thought I would try something  Patti Mollica talked about in the workshop.
When I painted these yellow ones about a month ago, the background was a very bright, beautiful turquoise and the centers of the flowers were dark yellow( but not nearly dark enough). I decided to paint a new version after Patti mentioned that too many bright colors can detract from the main subject.
I also noticed the first painting had areas where more dark was needed.
I grayed down the turquoise mix quite a bit with Quinacridone Magenta and Cad yellow light and white. I also darkened the value inside the flowers and on some of the leaves. What a huge difference it made in keeping the focus on the tulips.

Gerbera Daisies

Conversation, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

These are my favorite summer flowers because they grow so well in the heat and come in beautiful colors. Gerbera Daisies are indigenous to South Africa and they are certainly everywhere you look in Johannesberg and the  nearby town of  Sandton.
Luckily they grow as perennials in a mild climate so mine have been in the garden for quite a few years.

Pear Diem, 8 x 10 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$165, includes shipping
I had fun at Patti Mollica's workshop and I'm feeling very inspired. This is the painting from my studio this morning using some of the things I learned. Patti is an excellent teacher, very well organized, and generously gave us a wealth of information about values, color, and technique.

There is always some catching up to do after spending three days away from home but I'm planning on another  painting session later this afternoon.

Pansy

Sitting Pretty, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

The pansies are almost through for this year as the warm weather arrives, they do not tolerate heat well and they are ready to give up their space to other sun loving, heat resistant flowers such as Petunias, Lantana, and Geraniums.  The change of seasons, especially from winter to spring, is so stimulating and exciting.

A Favorite Sign

Signaling Spring, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100, free shipping

Wisteria is beginning to drip its sweet aromatic flowers from the high places on which it has climbed. I have long been in love with this quickly passing burst of color.
I may have mentioned that I planted some to grow up on our newly built pergola and it is growing well but not yet blooming so I have to seek other places to find it.  Fortunately, I know all the good places in town where it grows.

Kayaks

Kayaks At Reservoir Park,  6 x 6" oil on panel
SOLD

I've been walking the trail around this lake almost every day now that it's nice weather.  I came across this painting from a while back and it reminds me how much I want to start kayaking. I'm waiting for a sale on them at LL Bean.
I hope your week end has been full of things you enjoy doing.

Thanks for looking.

Time For Planting!

Home Grown, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 free shipping

The leaf lettuces, red and green are growing well in my garden along with baby spinach and kale. I am so excited to be growing vegetables again.  Can't wait to plant tomatoes and eggplant like these above from last year's garden. I can just taste those juicy tomatoes.
I also look forward to painting more outside now that no bundling up to stay warm is necessary.

Spring Chicken

Spring Chicken, 10 x 8 " oil on wrapped canvas

$160

This is one of my favorite chickens to paint. The black feathers tipped in white make such pretty patterns.

Thanks for viewing my paintings.

Fresh Fruit

Strawberries For Breakfast, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord

Sold

This is what I had for my breakfast. I made a smoothie that also included some frozen raspberries and blueberries along with some soy milk and a little maca. This is the time of year I switch from oatmeal to  putting interesting combinations in the juicer, usually with some spinach or kale for extra health benefits.
I am getting my supplies together to pack up for Patti Mollica's workshop which starts this week end. I am really looking forward to getting together with two great painting/blogging friends, Deborah Taylor  and Patti Vincent  who will also be there. I met both of them a couple of years ago in Carol Marine's workshop.

Sunlit Camellia

Pink Camellia, 6 x 6 " oil on panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

This is my favorite color of all the Camellias we have growing in our yard.  This variety is Camellia Sussanqua.  I love the way it looks with the sun hitting it.  The weather this week is much warmer than the cool days that these flowers usually have when they bloom. It has already climbed into the eighties and feels like summertime.  You won't hear any complaints about that from me.

Camellia

Camellias In Blue Vase, 5 x 7 " ©2012, Fay Terry

$100 with free shipping

This is a painting that I did a while back and have had lots of nice feedback on.  I didn't realize how many Camellia bushes we have and how different some of them are. There is one blooming right now that has pink and white variegated flowers, but only on parts of the flower, while the rest is a solid pink.
We have our warmest day yet today, already eighty degrees.

Perfect Romance

Barnyard Love, 20 x 16" oil on canvas, ©2013, Fay Terry

Sold

I am very happy to report that this painting has found a home. I received a call from the gallery this morning and I understand that the cute pig helped seal the deal.

There is a wonderful chemistry when a collector loves a painting and wants to include it in their decor.
I am most grateful for the connection that is forged between artist and viewer. That is when I am reminded that art is a magical thing.
Thank You!

Grapevine And Blue Sky

Perched On A Vine, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

This Song Sparrow is content to sit in the sun and soak up some rays after a long winter. This one lives in Arizona and eats seeds and insects. His winter diet is mostly seeds and when spring comes there are plenty of tasty insects to eat all day long.

Backyard Fowl

Friendly Chicken, 6 x 8 " oil on panel, ©2013

$100

I loved the way the sun was lighting up these feathers and making a cool shadow on the ground at the same time.  Lots of great chicken photos are finding their way to me as more people have backyard chickens. If you have a favorite chicken photo for me to paint, I'd love for you to email it to me.
You can go to my blog and find my address on the right side.

The sun is out, so I am going to try painting outside if it warms up a little bit more, it's only fifty
degrees.

Artful Artichokes, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

This is one of my favorite vegetables and they are plentiful right now. I have always loved them and their beautiful color shows up when they are cut in half. I love how they look on this bright table runner.
The final treat when you eat these is the heart of the artichoke which I like much better fresh.

Have a great "tasting spring vegetables" day!

Citrus Fruit

Lonely Lemon Wedge, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

This is a follow up to my fruit painting done on Tuesday, which you may remember.  I used the same colors today and I like the result.  The shadows were all done with Pthalo blue, thio violet, and cad yellow light.
I also used Gamblin transparent orange, a touch of raw umber on the lemon, viridian, zinc yellow, and cobalt turquoise in the tablecloth.  It is not often that I really keep track of the colors I use but I have enjoyed doing something a little different this week.

Sunflower Morning

Good Morning, Sunshine, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

It's so nice to see the sun in the morning while I'm having my coffee. I will never take sunny days for granted now that this winter has been so unusually gray. There have been fewer bright days than we normally have here.
I am happy with the colors in this painting and I am still enjoying Patti Mollica's book on color and learning a lot.

Vibrant Color

                          Citrus Set-up, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

This is a small still life that I set up in my studio in order to work on some of the ideas in Patti Mollica's book, Color Theory.  I practiced mixing some of the combinations given for vibrant colors and they definitely are.  The background is a gray that I mixed from pthalo blue, thio violet, cad yellow light, and white. It appears more gray in the painting than what you see in the photo. I may do this again and focus more on value, this time I was playing with color.

The book is full of information and Patti explains the concepts very well.

Thanks for looking at my daily paintings.

Furry

Bunny Blue Eyes, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

Today has been a fun painting day with my dogs hanging out in the studio with me. They have slept a lot after a great week-end with family and friends, I think watching our Easter Egg Hunt wore them out.
I am so glad that April has arrived and the Dogwoods are almost in bloom.
