Happy Easter

Best Friends, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

available

These two have been together for a long time. They are a couple of Easter decorations that I've had since my kids were little. I painted the wooden bunny, sans the bow tie, a few weeks ago and you can see that he is putting his best foot forward today.

Happy Easter, everyone!

Gray And White

Bunny 2, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

It is really just a coincidence that I became interested in bunnies right around Easter time.
I was looking at some of my sold paintings and they reminded me what a good time I'd had painting them.  Time to do more bunnies, thought I.
I hope you enjoy this one and more to come.

Thanks for all the support, comments, and pins of my work ya'll have done on Pinterest.
I appreciate every one of you who follows my blog.

Naan Bread

Azeeza Baking Bread, 20 x 24" oil on canvas

available, contact me

This is the outdoor kitchen of a home I visited while I was touring India. The house was three rooms and this cooking area. Azeeza let us help make the bread and then she baked it over the open fire. It was an unforgettable experience, like many other things on that trip.
I loved India, and the people were quite remarkable. I have many more ideas for paintings of this beautiful, colorful country, many of them highlighting the wonderful foods.

Thanks for looking at the art I post here.

Camellia

Camellia In Yellow Pitcher, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry
$100 includes shipping

There is something about these flowers that I cannot even describe except to say that I feel almost sentimental about them.  I cut them and bring them into the house starting in December and the shrubs are still blooming as we get into spring.
When one variety stops blooming another seems to start. I love their dark shiny leaves.
I have a big vase full of them on the kitchen table and they have lasted almost two weeks, they don't wilt, the whole flower just falls off the stem onto the table.
I want to paint more of them in the next couple of weeks so you'll be seeing them again soon.

Thanks for looking at my blog.

Beautiful Day In Pinehurst

Pinehurst Carriage Ride, 20 x 16 ", ©2013, Fay Terry

available

This is one of the larger paintings I have been working on. I always love seeing this horse and driver.  This path is beside Pinehurst Number Two, where the 2014 U.S. Open will be played. The carriage rides begin in the Village of Pinehurst  which is a beautiful area. I love living here in the Pines.

My older son and his new bride rode in a carriage like this, beautifully decorated for their wedding day, from the church to the reception. They were on this path beside the golf course and had a nice long, leisurely ride to the Pinehurst Fair Barn for their reception.

I appreciate you for looking at my art on this blog.

Dutch Rabbit

Bunn One, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$75

I'm having fun painting bunnies. The first year that I taught kindergarten I had a pet rabbit in my classroom in a nice large rabbit hutch that a parent built for us. It was a wonderful addition to our class, but ended up being a lot of work. I have tried to remember his name but so far it has not come to me.
I loved being a teacher and have such great memories of all the fun things that we did.
Now I am so happy to be an artist,  a second career that I also love.

From The Coop

Primary Colors, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord

$100 includes shipping

Here is some bright color for your week-end enjoyment.  I am often asked to paint more chickens, they surely are popular.  This time I used a warmer red and played it against one of my favorite blues, Sennelier Blue.

Great Veggies

Baby Bok Choy, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

I have been having fun painting vegetables that I have never painted before.  It all began when I saw a wonderful painting on Sarah Sedwick's painting blog. She had painted an eggplant and some baby bok choy. I have been following Sarah's blog for a while and I always learn so much from her fun and interesting posts. She is an amazing artist and has great enthusiasm which is always inspiring to me.

Thank you, Sara, for all the great information, color palettes, painting exercises, and tips you share  on your blog.  Click here to see some of Sedwick Studio's recent posts.

Thanks for looking at the art posted on my blog.
Have a great week-end and remember, spring weather will come! I say that as I sit here listening to the cold wind blow outside. It is usually warmer than this by now in North Carolina.

Long Legs

Finding The Light, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

I just love the stance of this chicken.  This is about the third time I have painted this one and each painting looks totally different because I was focusing on a different concept each time.
Today I was really thinking about warm and cool colors and I am happy with the way this one turned out because the bird really stands out from the background area.

In other news, I went to one of the first Palustris Festival events in Southern Pines last night. It was the opening of the "Double Takes" exhibition which showcases photographs and one painting for each photograph.  I  got to meet Marti Derleth,  the photographer who took the photo "Barnyard Love".
You may recall that I posted the painting that I did of the horse and pig  recently.   I was surprised to learn that she took the photo in the Cayman Islands. We have a large number of horse farms in this area and I thought it might have been taken locally.

Thanks so much for viewing! Please contact me to purchase this one and I'll put up a Paypal button for you.

Organic

Baby Leeks, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

I was happy to find these miniature versions of Leeks to use in a recipe, but I knew I had to paint them first. I purchased some other nice vegetables to paint so stay tuned to see more green veggies.

Maybe you can have a try a new recipe day and thanks for viewing!

Great Profile

Determination, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100. includes shipping

I love the way this chicken is staring as if saying, I will not back down. I am good at reading the minds of chickens. I hope you enjoy viewing this one. I am trying out various backgrounds and color combinations and this one seems to work very well. The turquoise is a little darker than it appears in this photo.
I hope you are having a day of not backing down from challenges! Whatever you are doing, enjoy the moment.

Thanks for viewing my art.

Color Amidst The Pines

Spring Visitors, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

I live in a Pine Forest area of North Carolina and beyond the lawn, most other areas are covered with Pine straw, which makes a great mulch for plants. I always love the way the flowers look against a backdrop of freshly fallen reddish Pine straw, it seems to make them stand out. I love they way these were swaying in a light wind and looking so dignified and regal.
I rarely cut any of these and bring them in the house because I like to see them in their natural habitat. When I want some for a vase, I go buy them at  the flower shop so mine won't be depleted.

I hope you are having a day that includes some signs of Spring!

Thank you for viewing.

Wearing Green

Shamrocks And Stars,  5  x 7 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

This is a plant I have always loved for its delicate clover shaped leaves and tiny star-like flowers.
Happy St. Patrick's Day !

P.S. I forgot to mention this--yesterday was my 600th painting post!

Spring Warmth

Any Day Now, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

This painting is a celebration of spring and I had fun using some of my favorite bright colors to make a warm painting of these perky flowers. Daffodils are such wonderful flowers and can transform a landscape with their shapes and color.

Click here to bid on this painting in a Daily Paintworks Auction.  This auction will last for seven days.

Rabbit

Rafferty, 8 x 8 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

Rafferty is a wooden rabbit with movable arms and legs that I have loved for a long time. I do not remember when or where I got him, but he is a treasure.
I have always wanted to paint him and decided to try a background that seems to suit his personality.
He is lots of fun and is happy just sitting in the studio on a shelf, dangling his long legs. (He is very tall).
I hope you enjoy seeing him since I had lots of fun painting him, especially the polka dots!

Click here here to bid on this painting. The auction lasts for seven days and is easy and completely safe to take part in.

Thank you for looking at my art.

Together

Color Block Chickens, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

One of my favorite things about daily painting is that you can try new things and paint what you may be in the mood to paint on any particular day.  I was planning on a spring painting but then I changed my mind because I have an idea for a new series that I am thinking about starting when I decide how I want to approach it.
I got so much inspiration visiting the art galleries in Scottsdale, Arizona and I am letting all the things I saw sink in while I plan my paintings for the next few weeks.
I hope you are having a good "Winter's almost over" day.

Thank you for looking at my paintings!

Inside The Barn

Barnyard Love, 20 x 16 oil on canvas, ©2013, Fay Terry

This is one of my larger paintings I have been working on for the Palustris Festival, which is a local celebration of the Arts. I painted it from a wonderful photo by a member of the Sandhills Photography Club for an exhibit called "Double Takes". Click here to learn more about this festival of visual, literary, and performing arts which is scheduled for March 20-24 in Pinehurst, Southern Pines, and Aberdeen, North Carolina.

Daffodils

Daffodils And Shadows, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

This pitcher is one of my favorite vessels to use as a vase.  I was drawn to the shadows on the wall as much as I was to the Daffodils. I am going to paint more of these because they are so much fun to paint.
I would love to paint some that are growing outside but we are having another rainy day. The rain is helping the grass which is already beginning to green up from its winter sleep.

I forgot to tell you that we climbed Camelback Mountain Saturday while we were in Arizona and I  am pleased that I haven't even been sore. It's been a while since I have done much vertical hiking.

Please forward this to anyone you think would enjoy these daily paintings!

Pink Iris

Spring Again, 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100

It feels good to be back in my studio. I just returned from a trip to Arizona, where my husband attended a meeting.  We had a great time, in spite of the unseasonably cold temps and a full day of rain on Friday. It was gorgeous yesterday when we left and this week will be sunny days in the eighties.
I did get to see some fabulous art in the galleries in Scottsdale.
Interestingly, we discovered that Arizona is one of only two states that does not go to daylight savings time.
I pre-posted paintings for the days I was gone, because I was ahead on my dailies.
Thanks for looking at my art!

Tiny Flyer

Little Bird, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

I have not painted birds in quite a while- found this one I had not posted.  Seeing this one makes me want to paint some more, so maybe I'll have a few more of these coming up.

Iris

Blue Iris,6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$75

I just love these blue Iris. We had tons of them for years growing in the garden of the house I grew up in.  They kept spreading  so  we had plentiful blooms for picking and bringing into the house and giving away. They originally came from my grandmother's garden.
They are showy, but simple to grow.

Sweet Yellows

Declaring Spring, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$100 includes shipping

These are getting my attention these days because I had not seen them come up for a couple of years.  It is nice to know they are still in the ground and know when to show themselves as a cheerful sight on a cold day.

Up A Tree

Peacock Alley, 5 x 7 " oil on archival panel

$100

This is from a photo I took in India where I saw many of these gorgeous birds but it was difficult to get a paintable shot so I left out all the tree limbs and leaves that partially blocked the view.
There may be another photo that I will try to work from soon.
Hope you are having a beautiful day.

Spring Baby

Wait Up! 6 x 6 " oil on gessobord panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

This scene reminds me of how much I love walking barefoot on soft green grass- just think, chickens get to do it all the time. These are free range chickens so they can appreciate the space they have to wander in.
Please feel free to share this with a friend or colleague you think would enjoy it.

Starting bid is $25.

Foiled Again

Opening Up, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

$25

These flowers are on my kitchen table near the window and buds are still opening.  When my husband brought them home, they were all completely closed so I wasn't sure what color they would be.  It has been fun watching them spread their petals, which seem to be lasting a long time.
The title of the post refers to the fact that when I leave the house I put aluminum foil under the vase to keep my cat, Bentley, from eating the leaves. He is afraid to set foot on foil and it is what I use to keep him off  places where he is not welcome.

This is another special price painting and you can bid on it through the Daily Paintworks Auction, which is easy and completely safe.  Click here  for larger view of painting and bidding information.

Sunlit Flowers

Crocus Time, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

We might get snow here Wednesday, but the little delicate blooms are popping up and growing.
It has been a cold and windy week-end, but lots of sunshine made it beautiful anyway.
I hope you had a dreaming about spring week-end!

Stepping Out

Fluffy,  6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

I love painting chickens of all shapes, sizes, and colors.  The dramatic black and white of this one against a grassy backdrop really struck me and I plan on painting a larger one right away in the same square format.

Here We Are, 6 x 6 " oil on archival panel, ©2013, Fay Terry

The surest sign of spring is in my yard right now as these crocus flowers poke their heads up and declare "we came back!".  It never fails to amaze me and it always seems like magic, because it is.
